Count me in as another STUCK Rains researcher. I'm stuck at my ggg grandfather's birth at 1804. He, Gallant Rains, was born 1804 in NC or SC (depending on which record you're looking at) then moved to Knox County KY when he was a child. That portion of Knox Co. became a portion of Whitley County KY in about 1820. There were three Rains men in the Knox/Whitley Co. area that are possibles for his father, John, Thomas or Jonathan Rains. John died in Whitley Co. in 1825, Thomas migrated to IN before 1820, and I have no clue what happened to Jonathan. My guess is that Gallant's father was John, because Gallant named his first-born son John. But, alas, no proof yet.
