Although we are confident that RAINS is the spelling used by our ancestors, there is that one or two who also, on occasion, used RAINES in writing his name -- or even one time, REINS, which appears on one of the Muster Cards from his Civil War records, which was written by someone else. Just to show that the RAINS family joined many others in spelling their name in various ways, we now know, through the kindness of a fellow family researcher, that our John RAINS (b. abt 1808, NC) married Unity BAILEY, d/o John BAILEY (d. abt 1831). In John BAILEY's will, that last name is not only spelled BAILEY, but BALEY, BALY, and BAYLEY as well. We would like to further document the connection of our John RAINS (b. 1870 MS)>Oliver RAINS (b. 1840 AL)>John RAINS (b. abt 1808 NC)>Oliver RAINS (b. 1774 NC)>Oliver RAINS (b. 1740? NC)>Henry RAINS (b. abt 1715)>Henry RAINS (b. before 1865 England). If anyone has about the same line, would enjoy trading info. Peggy
