    3. Vergil, Yes! Please continue your postings. My 3-grgrandfather was Gallant Rains born 1804 in NC (according to a Sonoma County California homestead affadavit signed by Gallant). I haven't been able to prove who his parents were, but his father was one of the Rains men who were in Knox/Whitley Co. KY in the early 1800s. Those Rains men were John b. circa 1785(who I think a likely candidate for Gallant's father since Gallant named his first son John), Thomas, and Jonathan Rains. Too bad for us researchers there were so many John Rains!! I've been reading all of your posts hoping to make a connection someplace. I, for one, appreciate all of the research that you are making available to those of us still trying to make connections. It's invaluable!! Keep it coming!
