Annie Benedict, Your proof on Emory can be found in Rains County, Texas, which was named for Emory and then they named the County seat Emory. He was a very respected man and held many offices there. His parents were John and Katy(Duncan) Rains. John was the son of George and Rosannah (Graham) Rains. Rosannah died in Randolph Co.N.C. and George went with the most of his children to the Caney branch near Jacksboro, Warren Co., Ten. The children of George was: Joab, Asahel, George, William, Robert, James, John and a daughter Hannah who married John Wesley Woodward. Joab was the oldest son and he went to Ohio in 1806 and on into Indiana in 1817 and lived out his life there. Asahel, William Robert, James, John and Hannah went to Warren Co., TN. Hannah and family joined Joab in Ohio but then went on to Join her brothers that had gone to Lamar, Texas. A part of this co., became Rains Co., Texas.
