    1. [RAINS] James, Robert, Baley Raines
    2. Good morning. All I can do for you is quote from the book by Katherine Buck Raines: "The Robert and Sarah Shelton Rains family have South Carolina, West Virginia, Tennessee and Marshall County, Alabama connections . . . . . . . . . .John Rains is believed to have settled in South Carolina with his parents, but their names are unknown. Robert Rains, Feb. 11, 1815-May 28, 1909, was born in Tennessee. He was married in 1843, in DeKalb County, Alabama to Sarah Shelton (Dec. 4, 1817-Jul. 28, 1883. They may have had other children, along with the following: Mary, Louisa, Mahala E., John, Caldona, Thomas Frank, Albert, Elbert, Henry Newton Green Rains................." John R. Ranes will, Fairfax Co., Va., mentions sons Anthony and John Ranes, and his wife Kezia and the two sons she bore him; namely, Newman and Baley Ranes. This will was Sept. 19, 1754.. Quoting again: " The William Bailey Raines born about 1818 in Alabama appears to have been a grandson of the Jonathan Rains who was in the 1810 Knox Co. (Ky.) census. He and his family lived in many different places which were also residents of the Jonathan descendants. . . . . . .William Bailey was married about 1840 to Elizabeth Kennymore Adams, a widow. They had 7 children and all of them were born between 1841 and 1854. This family was on the 1850 Jefferson Co., Alabama densus. They were residing in the Mud Creek Township. By 1860 they were in the Walker Co., Ala. census . . . . . .William Bailey and his family moved to Tn. in 1868 or early 1869. They lived in Ten. until Apr. of 1870, when they moved to Boone Co., Mo., and were in the 1870 census. William Bailey Raines is supposed to have died in 1883, in Mo.," etc., etc., etc. None of this may be of any value to you. Katherine's book is not indexed which makes it extremely difficult. I have glanced through most of it trying to find your people, but she mostly deals with Va., Ky., and Tn. people. Eva
