I have wondered abt. Robert and Marry but can absolutely make no Connection to my Rains group. I need a Robert and a Mary badly. They would tie in like a glove to my group. Vergil Raines Baxter60@aol.com Me I'm a NC Rains and Caroline Co., VA. . Problem is I do not know who in VA.
Dolores, it is strange that my father's mother's people came from Edgefield Co., SC and my wife's people also came from there. Actually all my people from every side all lived within 150 miles of each other at the same time. Strange world. My biggest shock came when I discovered that some of my Rains were Loyalist in the RW. even worse( He! He! ) my ggf was as blue as you can get in the Civ. War. So here I am in Texas with Loyalist and Yankee running through my veins. O I love it. Vergil
Dolores, the Robert in this will is my 4-ggf's brother. My 4-ggf, Lawrence Rains,b.1751/52, also for sure had a bro. named Ishmael. He left a will stating Lawrence as a bro. and he also discussed Robert in his will although never calling him a bro. it was a case where Robert was a " jurat ". There was George,Lawrence,Ishmael,John and Robert all being in Randolph Co.,NC at the same time. I can not prove that they were all bros. Actually I do not think so, probably some were cousins. At any rate I can't find there father or fathers. Some claim that a Henry Rains was there father but no proof. The Robert Rains in SC was not part of my group. However he did come out of NC. I wil keep looking for some of your Rains. Vergil Raines Baxter60@aol.com
Liz, In Randolph Do., N.C. in Deed book 11 page 198 and book 11 pages 255 and 256 you will find all of George's children named and it shows what they received. Neither the father or mother are mentioned in these deed. George had gone to Warren Co., TN. and it is believed but not proven that the mother had died. Joab was born 8/12/1770 and Asahel 5/5/1772. All of these children were born before 1790 census, because George on the 1790 census had seven Sons and one daughter. Thanks for sharing your information, Robert, I did not have Asahel's and James' parents at all nor the rest of their children. This will be a help to look further on this branch of the family. I really appreciate it. What are these deeds you mentioned? Do they list the children as heirs or something like that? Liz
Sorry -- think a cloud passed over my brain when sending this -- did not mean to send to list. Liz, Hope it will be alright to call you this as it is the way you signed your note. I would like to introduce you to a little more of your family. Some will debate this but it is true as they were on their grandfathers will. Actually it was not a will but it was two deeds given just as a will in the settlement of property. Their grandparents in this case was Richard and Asnath Graham. I have been unable to prove the Rains grandparents. Father: George Rains Mother: Rosannah Graham Children: Joab Rains Asahel Rains George Rains Hanna (Rains) Woodward James Rains William Rains John Rains Robert Rains Hope this will be of help to you. ----- Original Message ----- From: <TuchieP@aol.com> To: <RAINS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 11, 2001 11:24 AM Subject: Re: [RAINS] another Robert Rains in Warren Co TN > Hi Cousins, > Seems there are several of us that descend from James and Sarah Jackson > Rains.
