O yes the relationship of most of the Randolph Co. Rains are a real problem. I assume the 1750 Rains are related. Lawrence and Ishmael are bros. for sure. William and the Roberts are related I guess. You have probably noticed the 2 Roberts on 1790 census.
Yes most of the Robert's that I've talked abt. are the Randolph Co. variety. On the 1790 census William is there under Reines with 4 young children. And yes I do have his death date ,it is a matter of digging it out. He was a Quaker. And he is discussed in the books that I research. Who his father is , I have not a clue. The info I sent you are facts or at least out of books not info you get off the net. Just as soon as I find my notes wiil contact you. What state are you in, close to Houston? If so go to Clayton Genealogy Lib. It is great. Will be back with you. O yes did you get the beginnings of my Early Virgina Rains. Got to finish that too. Might help someone. Vergil Baxter60@aol.com
A William Raines was found in " First Families of America" It states that he was born in England in 1666 and settled in Charles City County,Virgina. >From " Cavaliers and Pioneers" . John Reynes is stated to have been a clerk in Westmoreland County, Virgina. He left a will dated August 31, 1664. He gave his estate to a female friend outside the family. Figure that out Ha!. We next find another Robert Raines and again quoting " Cavaliers and Pioneers'. It states " at A Court held for Essex County, Virgina in 10 March 1703 sold 3700 acres for Importation of 74 people into Colony". Robert Raines was one of the 74 listed. Next p. 5
Hi Vergil, I don't suppose you have found the notes on my William in N.C., his death date etc? You stated that he had been kicked out of Quakers meeting, but had been re-instated before his death. I cannot find him in the Quaker books. HELP!! I got the messages you sent about him being in 1790 Census, but there again, I cannot find him on that census. HELP!! again! I am enjoying your posts on this list and you seem to be so knowledgable of the Raines (or however they spell it). Another thing I need to know is, Do any of these messages about all these Robert Raines pertain to my Randolph Co. N.C. Raines? I hate to print all these out and have no need for them. As you seem to be so knowledgable of them, I thought it best to ask you before printing them out, or deleting them. In other words, Which of these Roberts, if any, are related to my William? Thanks Mary masdal@ala.net
This Roberet listed as Robert Raynes was also found on " Virgina Passenger & Immigration List Index Volume 3" arriving in 1652. The next Raines is as follows " Directory of the Ancestral Heads of New England Families 1620-1700" . Francis Ranes (Raynes, Raines ) arrived on a Maryland shore in 1665 on " A list of Rebbells Trans ported" to early Maryland. This may be tw0 different people. He is found in " Quakers of Pennsylvania" and is mentioned as "freeman" in Virgina. next will be p.4.
Next Raines From same source as last E-mail. " Enoch Hawker & Anthony Doney, 1000acres, Lancaster County, 29 July 1652. Upon NW branch of Corotoman River & SE along land of John Nichols. Transportation of 20 persons. " Robt. Raynes was one of the 20 people listed. Perhaps the same Robert is mentioned in " Omitted Chapters From Hotten's Original Lists of Persons of Quality-and Others who went from Great Britain to the American Plantations,1600-1700." Robert is listed under " the Company and Command of Capt. Thomas Rawlins taken in the field according to order January 6, 1679". Robert was 0ne 0f eight without "armes". Next E-mail
I would like to tell you folks just what little I know abt. the early Rain(e)s Clan. The first Rains mentioned was Roland Raines, farmer around 1620. The next was Wm. Reynes first mentioned February 8, 1634. From " Cavaliers and Pioneers, Abstract of Land Patents and Grants, Volumes 1, 2, and 3". " Charles Maagner (Magnor) Planter of Flowerde hundred unto William Hayward, Gent of Cawseys Cleere, by deed of sale, 650 acres more or less, lying and being upon Appamattock Riv., bording E. upon the same, W. the mainland, S. upon Appamattock Towne and N. upon Swift Cr. 8Feb. 1634" Witness by Wm. Reynes. Next later
Robert, Thanks again for explaining about the deeds and the children in the census for George Rains. Now this is the elder George that was married to Rosannah Graham that you mentioned went to Warren Co TN.? Did he die there? Both Asahel and His son George died there. Liz PS Have a Happpy Easter everyone!
Has anyone come across a Samuel Reynes, Raynes? Maybe in Alabama? We just got my GGrandfather's marriage license and he listed his father as "Samuel" although his name was Constant. This would be after 1866 and before 1900. tia, Cat http://www.gensdecouleur.com Catherine Donnow Ambiance Studio Web Design ----- Original Message ----- From: <baxter60@aol.com> To: <RAINS-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, April 11, 2001 9:46 PM Subject: Re: [RAINS] another Robert Rains in Warren Co TN > asmy worldly Estate, I will and possitively order, First that all my debts be > paid then i leave all my land and moveables Estate to my Dearly beloved wife > during her widowhood or natural life to raise my small children upon but if > she re marrys again or should Decease I desire my lands Should be Equally > divided among my sons. > > > > > ==== RAINS Mailing List ==== > > > > ============================== > Join the RootsWeb WorldConnect Project: > Linking the world, one GEDCOM at a time. > http://worldconnect.rootsweb.com > >

Virgil THANKS i got all the will.i really appreciate you going to all the trouble to send it. if you ever need Okla help just let me know. Do you know where Roberts children went to after his death or know their names? i found a William Raines in Lawrence Co Ala.in 1820 dont know if there is any connection but my James married there in 1818 before moving to Walker Co. I found a Robert Raines in S.C. in 1790 but not in Randolph Co .He was in Edgefield co.and still there in 1800 so this is not our Robert that left the will. What is your connection to this Robert with the will? I have looked in S.C., Tenn. Ala And Ga for clues where my James and Robert were in 1800-1810 with no luck. really appreciate you Dolores ________________________________________________________________ GET INTERNET ACCESS FROM JUNO!
