Also Dolores did you see my reply?
Norma, the book " And The Rain(e)s Came" was a book printed by my 2nd cousin J. Floyd Bullock. He spent about 20 years in his research. It is no longer in print. As A service to anyone who might want a copy, I was and am getting a list of people. I will get copies made when I have enough. Vergil Raines

Does anyone have any information at all on the RAINS family in Pryor, Mayes County, Oklahoma? This was the home of Etta Engle Rains. I have not been able to find out when she was born or died. Is there an obituary? Who were her parents? She was from Louisiana. Her sisters were Dora (Duck) and Eliza (Martin). Thank you, Shirley
I am looking for info. on my g-g-grandparents: Thomas Rains and Lou Creasy Pennington. My g-grandfather, Charles Edward Rains was born in Bohannon, TX between 1889-1891. He married Fannie Pearl Ashley b. 1891 Waco, TX. Charles died in 1963 Chickasha, OK. Any info. will be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Amber Shell researching CHILDRESS, RAINS, CAMERON, ASHLEY, PENNINGTON, MURRY
Still searching for info on Emory, Joab, George Rains and all his siblings. Is there any pictures out there of this family? We seem to get a little info but it would be nice to get a picture along with the info. This group is very quiet. Did everybody go on vacation? Thanks, Annie
Annie Benedict, Your proof on Emory can be found in Rains County, Texas, which was named for Emory and then they named the County seat Emory. He was a very respected man and held many offices there. His parents were John and Katy(Duncan) Rains. John was the son of George and Rosannah (Graham) Rains. Rosannah died in Randolph Co.N.C. and George went with the most of his children to the Caney branch near Jacksboro, Warren Co., Ten. The children of George was: Joab, Asahel, George, William, Robert, James, John and a daughter Hannah who married John Wesley Woodward. Joab was the oldest son and he went to Ohio in 1806 and on into Indiana in 1817 and lived out his life there. Asahel, William Robert, James, John and Hannah went to Warren Co., TN. Hannah and family joined Joab in Ohio but then went on to Join her brothers that had gone to Lamar, Texas. A part of this co., became Rains Co., Texas. Some of these men never left TN. they died there. The list of children I have for John is Isaac, John, Emory, Joab, Gilbert, George Raleigh, James Spencer, Margaret and Nellie. Hope this will help you some. Bob Raines
I am searching for the obituary of Etta Engle RAINS, of Pryor, Oklahoma. She had two sisters, Eliza A. Engle Martin born Jan. 29, 1883 and died Dec. 15, 1973 in Edgewood, Van Zandt Co., Texas, and Dora Engle Duck born Jan. 28, 1888 and died Jan. 2, 1963 in Bunkie, Rapides Parish, LA. Also, a brother, John Thomas Engle born Nov. 4, 1893 and died July 14, 1975 in Van Zandt Co., TX; he was a resident of Longview, Gregg Co., TX. Thank you very much, Shirley/LA HappeeNotes@aol.com
Looking for proof of Emory, Joab, George and other children that belong to Katy Duncan who married a Rains but nobody is sure of who the father is. Any help solving this mystery???????? Would appreciate a response to this. Thanks, Annie
Those Randolph Co., NC Rains are an elusive bunch, and if you pursue them too long without a break you've guaranteed to suffer from headaches and blurred vision. I'm been taking that needed break, but after reading Mary Stephenson's posts in the Rains List archives, I decided buy more aspirin, join the Rains List, and start knocking my head against that brick wall again. The following original papers can be found in the Randolph Co., NC estate file of William Rains at the NC State Archives in Raleigh. (1.) 3 May 1824 - Bond for John Raines & Jesse Hicks, administrators of the estate of William Raines. Bond signed by John Rainse & Jesse Hicks, Wm. Brown, & Robert Barker. (2.) 10 March 1824 - Inventory of the estate of William Raines. Signed John Rainse (3.) Feb. 1827 - Final Account of estate. John Rains & Jese Hix, administrators. #24 on itemized list - Judgment faver L. Ranes/Rains $15.50. The following entries can be found in Randolph Co., NC Will book 5 - Estate papers for William Rains, 1824. (1.) August Term 1824 - Inventory of the estate of William Rains Decd. dated 10 March 1824. (2.) August Term 1826 - Report of those commissioned to allot Margaret Rains, widow of William Rains, her one year support for herself and family. Dated 14 July 1826. (3.) February Term 1827 - Account of the estate of William Rains. Randolph Co., NC marriage bond for Jesse Hicks & Marget Rains dated 25 April 1803. Bondsman James Williams. Nancy Martin

Thank you very much. Are all these documents in Raliegh? Would any of them be in Randolph Co., at Asheboro? Now, does anyone have an address in Raliegh for me to write to to get them? This is wonderful data. Again, Thank you Nancy. If anyone out there has a copy of any wills or probate of PP rains, in Texas about the 1850's-1860's in either Harrison, Fannin, or Lamar cos., Please send the will to me, directly. No viri, been there and done that sort of thing ok.Besides you can't send attachments thru the rootsweb system. John Philip Adams jadams3@pdq.net
Miss Betty, Hello, I could not get a response from you, so am sending this to you at the list. Please take a minute to read this so you will understand and not think me ungrateful. I have just come back on line after 6 long weeks after being hit by a virus. My computer guy told me no "antivirus program" was going to keep me from being hit again. He told me not to "OPEN" any mail. He said just read it through my window, and be sure to "NOT open attachments". I got zapped by opening an attachment containing a Raines will. I am not blaming anyone, as I understand that attachments can contain the virus even though your computer seems to not be affected by the worm. It attaches itself to sent mail. I am itching to open that attachment, but my better judgement will win out, as I cannot afford to spend all that money to have it re-programmed again. I live on Social Security disability and have to do without something to have something else.(not complaining), but Computer repair and programers are very expensive. You are a kind and generous person to take the time to send me data, and I want you to know how I appreciate the offering. I just had to let you know why I won't be responding to the information. I apologize to you for not opening the attachment. Mary masdal@graceba.net
Miss Betty Lipe, Will you send me your email addy so I can send you an email. My mail will not send without an addy. Mary masdal@graceba.net
