    3. OK, Starting with old Daniel - using Gen #1 as point of reference for his decendants. Aside from Francis Sr (Gen #2) having a son Joseph Sr (Gen#3) who also had a son Joseph Jr (Gen#4, b. 1706/09), Francis Sr (Gen#2) had a son Francis Jr (Gen #3) b. 1685 who also a son Joseph (Gen#4) b. 1710/1712. This is the Joseph (Gen#4) whom I think may POSSIBLY be the father of John & Frances (Gen#5) of Bute & Warren NC, NOT the Joseph (Gen#3) who died in Bladen NC in 1773. -----Original Message----- From: Maryellen Horrigan Sent: Friday, September 21, 2007 11:42 PM To: ragan-roots@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [RAGAN-ROOTS] oddities to share I have John's ( son of Daniel) birth estimated at c1670 and John/Bell as 1725 and Francis Sr as 1730 ( Nola has a court deposition)That makes John 55 or 60. If we said men over 50 couldn't have families half our data would be gone. Unless you are holding back on us, we don't know who John the son of Daniel's wife was...she could have been his 4th. How do you know that John or Francis was anyone's 5th generation? We don't know yet where they fit in. For Joseph, son of Francis/Jane Gross? I have the following: Oh My, the dumb Francis file just went nuts under my eyes...I now have notes for a John where I was copying my Joseph notes. Anybody have this with FTM before? I hate this program. Okay, thank heavens I do backup. We have been over this will before. It is very complete as to names. THERE IS NO JOHN ON IT. I am not comfortable with just plopping one in. Before I forget, Joseph Sr married an Elizabeth Gadd, dau of Thomas ( in Thomas' will--Nola) she was the granddaughter of the Thomas Gadd who was the military commander for James City in 1622 in the big slaughter by the Indians under Oppacancanough. I shall look for this old will. It looks like my FTM doesn't like to open the older version files. We know that Francis b. 1685 (3rd Gen) had a son Joseph (4th Gen). But nothing else is known about him. This could the the Joseph md to Mary in Bute/Warren NC area near both John & Francis. I question John b. 1666 (2nd Gen) as being the father of John & Francis (5th Gen). If so John b. 1666 would have been abt age 64 as well as his wife when John & Francis was born in 1730s. -----Original Message----- From: Maryellen Horrigan Sent: Friday, September 21, 2007 12:47 PM To: ragan-roots@rootsweb.com Subject: [RAGAN-ROOTS] oddities to share You have me digging. I have run across a series of odd items I put away after the last time I assaulted NC R's. One item to remember... The Francis Riggans family becomes Ragan in TN/KY/LA. I cannot vouch for the spelling beyond that. I also don't think it matters. I think a lot of R's are here in 1700's NC as Riggin, Regin, Riggans, and go on to other versions. (MCH) #1 I have a copy of an apprenticeship paper written in the 2nd year of the reign of Queen Anne. ( sometime between 1702 and 1706 as that is the file it is in and I'm too frazzled to google)( York Co Deeds, Orders, Wills 12, 1702-1706, p. 165) The papers are a contract between Daniel Pegram of York County, VA and Thomas Whity of James City County to learn carpentry. As we are looking at John Riggins, son of old Daniel/Elizabeth of I-of-W/Surry VA as a possible father of John/Anne Bell Riggans, and Francis Sr/Mary Pegram Riggans, and as John is "in the neighborhood" of the Surry, York, New Kent VA, in the late 1690's, this looks promising. Propinquity! #2 On the 1687 census of Barbados is listed an Owen and a William Regan in the St Lucy's Parish where a Robert Gent was also listed. When the Gents get to NC the spelling varies from Gent to Gant to Gaunt. Somewhere in Orange Co NC in the mid 1790's, my Riggins marries a Gant. These Gants we tract from I-of-W and Surry VA to Granville and Orange NC. #3 I have a request from someone 7 years ago looking for a John James Rxxx who lived in Nothern Granville and wa buried in Enon Church...no date given. I get nervouse when fist names are doubled. I think a lot of people get smushed together that way. #4I have 3 notes from various R folk suggesting that the father of Chas Washington Rxx born circa 1775 is one of the 4 Richards in Warren at that time. The 4 Richards of Warren are the sons of: Joseph b. 1712, John b. 1730,( I can refute that one), William Powell 1722,and Timothy b. bef 1714. Any comments? Because folks in this old Granville, Bute areas of NC got involved in Orange Co NC's Regulators, and then fled elsewhere I am including the following: ( personally, I think my guy was in SC for the Rev War and then left, so this is too late for me) #5 SC 1790 Census Abbeville, Jona ( Jonathan) Ragan ( NOT Iona, for Pete's sake!)1 M 16+ and 4 F Beaufort, Ann Riggins 1 M -16, 3 F Ebenezer Riggins 1 M 16+, 2 M -16, 2 F Camden, Morgan Regan 1 16+ John Ragin Newberry Darby Raygin 1 M 16+, 3 M -16, 1 F David Raygin 1 16+, 3 M -16, 2 F John Regin 1 M 16+, 3 M -16, 3 F Joseph Ragen 1 M 16+, 1 -16, 4 F Reason Raygan 3 M 16+, 1 M -16, 7 F York Morgan Regan 1 M 16+ ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to RAGAN-ROOTS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to RAGAN-ROOTS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to RAGAN-ROOTS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message
