Mr Whitefield was born 17 September 1838 in Person Co NC. In his youth he moved to Hopkinsville ,KY where he was for years manager of the Thomas Riggins mercantile business.. He enlisted in the Confederate Army in 1861 at Hopkinville and served throughout the war with the 35th Alabama Regiment. After he was mustered out, he wet to Clarksville , TN and for several years managed the grocery and general store of Mann Riggins near New Providence, being the confidential buyer in New York. In 1869 he married his first wife, Eugenia Carr Brown, and moved to Paducah to enter the tobacco business. ( that one was interesting because of the Brown, the Person Co, the move fro KY to TN and back, and the TWO "R" names jobs.I have much more on this family) *Casey County Kentucky1806 Settlement and Early Development" ed by Gladys Cotham Thomas. 1814 tax list of Casey KY: Lindsey Powell with 434 Acres on Carpenter's Creek ( Next listed is a column that is titled "name entered" I think bounders? This entry says John Carpenter) Lindsey has: 1 white over 21, 5 blacks over 16, 15 total blacks, 9 horses, mares mules, was valued at 60 per acre, ($ ? ) and his total valuation was 8330. ( My!) * Forks of Elkhorn Church" Ermina Jett Darnell.(I don't know where this is. It didn't say , and my GUESS is Woodford KY) "Another Price family came from Chesterfield Co VA and settled in Fayette, Scott and Woodford.. Philemon Bird Price ( 1783-1835) married first Corrilla Mansel ( dau Geo) Fayette 1803. Their children were 1. Theodore who went to Missouri. 2.Mortimer. P.B.Price married second Mary Dorsey Wilmot ( dau Col Robert and Priscilla Dorsey Wilmot ) They had..#6 Andrew F. married Mary Regan.several of these families went to Ill." ( I have other children in this article) In this same book on the Forks of Elkhorn Church it says that I 1886, a list was made of former pastors of the church. It included: Geo. W. Riggan 1880-1885. There is a list of deacons also, but no "R" names. * In a book titled "Some Original Land Grant Surveys along Green River in Lincoln and Casey Counties Kentucky 1781-1836" are some original plats. Almost as amazing as some original parchment holding that I held, but we weren't there. I did find a plat for a Samuel Rubarts ( Roberts?) wherein the surveyor was James Allen, the surveyor crew was William Pigg and Abraham Breeding, and the deed was recorded by John Jones. All good associated names.. I am going to take a break here folks. I am a bad typist and have a wonkey keyboard and some of the pages on film are blurry. It skips certain letters and the space bar is balkey.) Previews of things to come: I have a cabinet makers bill for a child's coffin for $5 for a Daniel Ragan. I have a court case when a lady in KY sued through Boston's Federal Cort a guy in a French prison. At issue was land. The lady held an Original Spanish Gov't Land Grant, which KY had legislated to acknowledge and she sued a wannabe owner ( the guy in the French prison) her name , drum roll please, Court, are you paying attention? , was Brashears. ( Court has a Riggin/Brashears marriage. I will get to these as the come. Please write and tell e if anything strikes you, or what you might need in the future. I did look at a lot of Adair Co. not much there. I may have to go there Until later,.Maryellen
