    3. I'm new at this and getting soooooooo confused. Just who is the father of Nathan, Owen and Jesse Ragan who moved to Dickson Co TN? Best, Brenda -----Original Message----- From: ragan-roots-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ragan-roots-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Maryellen Horrigan Sent: Friday, September 14, 2007 7:03 PM To: ragan-roots@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [RAGAN-ROOTS] Fw: Re: Ragan, McIntosh Yup, we have that Joseph Jr had a John who, if he had an uncle John by grandfather Joseph Sr... he would be John Jr. to his uncle. This John, son of Joseph Jr had a son John, but he wasn't born until 1774, so he didn't sign. John Riggan /Ann Bell could have been the Sr John to any of the young pups. He did not have a son John. Francis and Jane of VA had a son John who died in 1767, so he didn't sign. But this John is supposed to be the father of a William who died in 1813. William is said to have married Sarah Ann Warren. They had a son John born in 1767. That would be too young to have signed. Jesse, brother to William is also credited with a John, but he was born too late. John and Ann Bell have a grandson John via son Jacob, but he was born the year of the petition. There are some very young Johns through the John of Francis and Jane, but too young for our purposes. If the combination of John Sr and Jr is not found in some combination of John/Bell or Joseph Jr's John and a younger man, then we should look to VA and or MD for another family. Among those 300 men are the names of John Ragon Sen' and John Ragon Jur'. The copy of the transcription I have the names are not alphabetized but, ,the surnames of family members are listed as a group. The two Ragons are listed together. These may not father and son as I understand that it was common practice if two men were of the same name the older would also be listed as "Senior, and the younger as "Junior. James H. 1. [RAGAN-ROOTS] Confusion and the R's
    2. Maryellen Horrigan
    3. Brenda, and all. There are so any ways of spelling these R names. Everyone clings to the spelling that their family clung to. Therefore, when we go way back, there is no sharing of information because each family group thinks the early settlers are just theirs. The early records will call folk by three or four spellings in one document. A significant number of various pre-1800 Riggin Riggans, Ragan Regen, Ragains etc families show up in the Warren, Wake Robeson, Person ,Orange, Guilford, Bute area of NC. This is one big geography lump that got divided many times. We are trying to separate the many Johns Williams, Josephs etc. I do have some Nathan stuff for you, but must run...later, Maryellen The short version: Teague and Darby Riggin of 1650's Accomack VA and Somerset MD. Daniel and his son Francis Riggan of 1650's Isle of Wight and Surry VA. Joan and Joan Reagan of early 1700's Charles Co MD and Stafford VA. William and William Powell of 1700's Stafford VA. Timothy Ragan of mid 1700's Ann Arundel MD -----Original Message----- From: ragan-roots-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ragan-roots-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Brenda Sent: Friday, September 14, 2007 7:11 PM To: ragan-roots@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [RAGAN-ROOTS] Fw: Re: Ragan, McIntosh I'm new at this and getting soooooooo confused.
