    1. [RAGAN-ROOTS] ORIGINAL IMMIGRANT R.... IN AMERICA
    2. martybilld
    3. Does anyone care to speculate on who the first R.... (Riggin, Riggan, Regan, Reagan, O 'Reagan, Ragan, etc.) that came to America and where he was from? Was there more than one that came together as the first? When did that person(s) come to America? How many R....'s can be accounted for via ship passenger lists or otherwise from the beginning to, say, 1850? Where did the first one(s) settle in America? There has been a lot of action on the ragan-roots site lately and some of the information goes back to the early 1700's but I wonder if there was a R..... before that or if anyone knows. Is there a good source of history of R....'s in America? I feel quite sure that there are many branches of R....'s in early American history and from what I have seen via various R,,,, sources most of them came from Ireland. The big question is this; does anyone know about the relationship of R....'s in Ireland and how they may be traced back to a common point (not all the way to Adam! I know better than that.)? In other words, who is the progenitor of the R.... clan in America? Lots of questions that may be difficult to answer but it would be good for some good researcher that may have put a lot of this together to share at least some of it with the rest of us interested in the R.... clan. Anyone up to the challenge? Thanks, Bill

    3. Forget Sharol's book, it won't hold water re the kings of Ireland wishful thinking...by the way, the name Teague, Tiege in Galic means leader... perhaps we shall all write the R book...here and now... I think Teague and Daniel might connect (and Sharol is correct that Cromwell was a big part of the Irish wave of the 1650's)...and take Wm Powell and Francis and John with them. I think James and Joan , and Timothy are a separate matter.... but then I think people on line have them all scrambled...sigh. There is a cluster come out of DELMARVA, date is iffy, but before the Revolution. They contain Allens, Atkinsons, and Riggins. I think the Francis Riggan of NC was named for a Francis Allen out of MD,Who's wife was both a maiden Atkinson and a Riggin widow, NOT for the line of Daniel of I-of W and Surry VA. 3. There is a good Irish history in Chapter two of Teage Riggen and his Riggen-Riggin-Riggins Descendants by Sharon Riggin. She has about 5 pages on the history on the names in old Ireland.
