A Beard researcher has sent me a copy of a Spearsville (LA) book article. ( That's what she calls it) The lady is a Beard/Beaird. In LA her Beard marries into a traceable line from Francis Ragan of NC. The problem for me is that the Beard that this Francis line Riggan/Ragan marries is mine, traceable to an Alabama/GA/NC ( going backwards) Riggins. Sooo, I will tell you what the blurb says. I do not know if this is from one of those bogus Heritage books, wherein anyone can make up anything and get it printed without proof. But even Heritage gets it right sometimes. I suggest you use this as no more than a start point. Can someone outline the parentage of the Joseph and Olive below ? We can then compare. To begin with, there is a pic of a Confederate soldier, one of those studio posey things before going off, the title of which is: Joseph Daniel Reagan, grandson of Joseph and Olive Reagan. The article says: Joseph and Olive Rosier Reagan came to North Louisiana in 1836. They settled in the vicinity of Zion Hill. Joseph died on Dec 14 1839. At the time of Joseph's death the couple had three married daughters, two more grown children and four minors. The married daughters were: Nancy who married RCHARD Lee, Elizabeth who married John Austin, and Mary who married Charles McDonald. The two unmarried grown children were John R. and Sarah. The minor children were: William Daniel who married Nancy Beard, Emily who married John Hanna Jr. and moved to Texas in about 1851, Martha Ann born Sept 4, 1832 married John Washington Beard, and James who along with his mother disappeared from Union Parish after 1849. Martha lived until 1909 and is buried at Mt Union. Although the name has been spelled Regan as well as Ragan, it has evolved into Reagan today. The descendants of the family have married into many prominent familie in Union Parish, and especially those of the Spearsville Area such as Odom, Murray, Tubbs, Rockett, Hudson, Henderson, Hunt, and Owens, just to name a few.
