    3. Regretfully, I'm not familiar with your James. But Lancaster Co is not too far from Newberry Co., SC. The Reagins that came there were Quakers but a lot of the offsprings stopped being Quakers and left Newberry. He may have come from that bunch. The only early 1800s James from Newberry Co. that I'm familiar with was a James Jones Reagin, the son of William Reagin & Phoebe Burdette Burton who was born in Newberry Co. abt 1810 and dies 1873 but this doesn't appear to be your James as he probably died in the 1840s. Sorry I can't help. You probably already know this, but in case you don't, Elizabeth Ragin and the younger kids are in Harris Co., GA without James in 1850 census. I have been trying to locate more information on the parents of my gg grandfather, James Ragan, and have butted my head against the proverbial brick wall many times! What little I know of my James is that he was born in Lancaster, SC, married Elizabeth Decker, is found on the 1840 census in Talbot Co., GA but not the 1850 census. They had at least eight children, Peter Fleming (born in SC), Simeon (or, Simon), Sarah Jane, Alfred Asa, Mary Elizabeth, W.L., Lucinda, and, J.C., all born in GA. There is always the possibility of others that we do not know about. Most of the issue left GA for TX and MS but Elizabeth (wife) died in GA. In your research have you seem any information concerning this family? Any ideas or suggestions? I have been in touch with a lot of Ragan (variant spellings) researchers and keep hoping that I can find one that either knows about this family or can suggest a site to search. I have relatively good records of most of the issue but would really love to uncover information on the parents of James. I have lots of data on the family (Decker) of his wife, Elizabeth but none of them have more than that she married James Ragan. Thanks for your time. 3. Michael, you wrote: "You probably already know this, but in case you don't, Elizabeth Ragin and the younger kids are in Harris Co., GA without James in 1850 census." Yes, Michael, I am aware of that and realized that I left that out in my message. Thanks for pointing that out to me We think James died in the '40's as he had a child.born about 1846/47. We tried the gold rush and the Mexican war but no help in locating him. I suspect records of such events were not very good for that era and we will probably never know if he was involved in one or the other. Thanks again, Bill martybilld@bellsouth.net ----- Original Message ----- From: "Nash, Michael A" <manash@pbsj.com> To: <ragan-roots@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, September 17, 2008 2:47 PM Subject: Re: [RAGAN-ROOTS] SC 1800 > Regretfully, I'm not familiar with your James.
