The first Thomas Bell who died in 1761 was married to Mary Thompson. They had a son, Thomas Bell, who died in 1782. The second Thomas Bell was married to a daughter of Samuel Jones and wife Agnes who were also the parents of Daniel Pegram's wife, Agnes Jones. Thomas Bell (2) left his Will dated 26 May 1782, probated November Court 1782 and recorded in WB3:159. He names sons Thomas Bell, John Bell, William Bell and Muntford Bell and daughter Patty. He left a life estate to his wife, not named. Sons William Bell and Muntford Bell are identified as being minors. Executors were Henry Jones, Jesse Bell and Daniel Pegram. Witnesses were John Colclough, John Harton and Daniel Pegram. The 1800 Census of Warren Co. shows that Thomas Bell and wife Martha have 2 sons. One is between 10 and 15 and the other is 16 to 25. They have 2 daughters between 10 and 15 which we have not identified. In 1810, there are no males left in the home. We know that Thomas, Jr. and his new wife are living close by. John is not found in Warren Co. in 1810 and may have left with other family members who had already started westward. Thomas Bell (3) and his wife Martha Pegram, together with the familiy of their adult son, Thomas , went to Tennessee shortly after the turn of the century along with Daniel Pegram (Martha's nephew) who had married Lucy Milam. Many of Lucy Milam's family traveled with them. Also in this migration was John Bell who we believe was a brother of Thomas Bell. The Pegrams, Bells and Milams all lived within shouting distance of each other in Warren Co., and soon settled within shouting distance of each other in what is now Cheatham Co., Tennessee. Unfortunately for anyone researching these families, they began spreading to other areas shortly after arriving in Tennessee. John Bell, who we believe to be a brother of Thomas Bell (3) is of interest since his descendants subsequently married back into the Pegram family. Ann Bell, the wife of John Riggan of NC, is held to be a daughter of Thomas Bell (1)and Mary Thompson. Mary Thompson's father Samuel, was a son of William Thompson. and the only descendent of the original Rev William Thompson in New England to have children. His 1748 sale of land prior to a move to NC has John Sr Riggen, John Jr Reggen, and Joseph Reggen as witnesses. Mary Thompson's mother was Sarah Edwards, whose father William Edwards left a 1721 will: William Edwards' will names daughters Mary, Elizabeth, Ann and Sarah; sons, Benjamin, William and Micajah. He also devised to Francis Regan "one dividend of land lying at the mouth of Susquehannah branch, lower end of his line and the great swamp below his house not exceeding 10 acres, formerly promised to Samuel Kindred." (Bk. 7, p. 389). Okay, let's backup. John Riggan ( est b. 1720-25 I'm not wild about this date) married a daughter, Anne, of Thomas Bell (I) and Mary Thompson. Her father died in 1761. That's the only date we have so far. Martha Pegram ( b.c. 1760) married Thomas Bell #3 ( marriage 1782) Mary Pegram ( b.c. 1743) married Jun 1759, Francis Riggan ( b.c. 1730) (please note Francis was 29 for this marriage and there is time for a first wife, however, I think he was born later and this his first marriage) Anne Bell Riggan, wife of John, is the aunt of Thomas (#2) Bell/xxx Jones. This This Thomas Bell #2 is the father in law of Martha Pegram. The Pegram girls have married into Bells that are 2 generations apart. ( one married generation #2 and Martha and Mary Pegram are sisters, born 17 years apart. I'm not buying the John and Francis Riggan as brothers...and these birth dates are awful ! But, back to Francis... In 1721, when William Edwards leaves a bequest of 10 acres to Francis Regan, our NC Francis Sr. was, by all practical estimates, not yet born. Francis Sr of NC died in 1818. He'd have to be well over 100. How does Francis ( Francis, Daniel) fit in here? If John/Bell is the Francis Jr of Thompson's 1748 land witness, who is SR? Is the Joseph witness our odd b. 1710 Joseph ? Okay, James, I get it.. John and Francis are most likely from Daniel... but I am not through with William. I think you have applied data to one William that is actually 2 Williams. William and Charles are James....the $64 dollar questions is...drum roll...can we relate Daniel to James...Maybe...and there are 2 Dans in early I of W that I keep mixing up with Dan Jr that Sam keeps correcting...they need to be placed...meanwhile, back at the ranch, I'd like to try to nail William and get he and his off the list of orphan and misapplied Rgns of NC. Then on to Charlie...And yes, I believe Daniel and James connect, but not Timothy. M'ellen BTW, don't repeat this but answer fresh as it is getting too big.
