James, I think Bridget is just a given name, and a clerk/pastor/ recorded her as Eliz-Bridget to keep her apart from Charles' Elizabeth and possibly Mathews'. Then they get a new pastor and he puts "Bridget" as having Winifred ( was that the last one ?), as she probably goes by Bridget to be different...there are far too many Elizabeths. I suspect the idea of a new pastor fits with why William is not listed with this birth...he is dying ( he dies shortly after) and he is no longer a factor in the church community. The problem is... and I will argue this tomorrow, I believe the man who dies in 1744 is not the father of Powell and Jane. More on that tomorrow.
