Stafford is actually not a "burnt" county... don't blame the Yanks here... it was, however on the route from Fredericksburg to Washington DC and was often occupied. The courthouse was following down before the War between the States. Many records were removed by the county clerks. 2/3's of the records inventoried in 1791 are still missing. But, I am told, every decade or so, another missing bundle shows up in some old southern attic. A recent publication of fairly widespread tax lists does give us some idea of who was here. I think, however, if we are lucky, we may have luck finding records of the Rgns in King George. M'ellen
