M'ellen I have to admit, you have lost me re: Wm/Wm Powell "R's" Let me see if I understand you correctly? James/Joan has a son Wm#1 b. 1690? when and where does this Wm#1 die if he outlives son Wm#2 who dies 1744? Is Keziah & Elizabeth in the 1747 estate settlement his (Wm#2) siblings and Wm (#1) his father? When was Wm #2 born? 1722? if so he was only 22 yrs old with children???? Wm#1 is md to Elizabeth Bridget Powell? Wm #1 & Wm#2/d. 1744 are the ones in Grace Powells 1734 will? Wm#2 then dies in 1744? Are you saying that Wm# 1 went to Surry VA. Is Wm R of 1765 Bute not Wm-3 s/o Wm-2 & Bridget (if son Wm-3#2 died 1744?) Then who is the Wm R/d. 1770 in Bute md to Priscilla? I thought Jane who md Douglas Evans was d/o Charles-2. Please Clarify!!!!!! I think the 2 (two) 1770 Bute Wm R's are Wm R of Surry & Wm R b. by 1750 (s/o Wm, dec'd & Pricsilla) the 1771 Bute Wm Riggin may be Wm b. by 1750 (s/o Wm & Pricsilla) JW Garrett
Either there is a separate Wm or there is 2 wives...I think it is too tight for another Wm, however, I tried...just talked myself out of it. William married and had Jane, possibly by a dau of Grace. She died, and he remarried. Or, the 2 kids were named for Grace's daughter Jane and the family name. The Powell may be gifted just because of his name. This is per Grace's will wherein Jane is treated as a child, not a wife. ( as is Powell) You said Jane belonged to Charles...there is no record to back that. Charles is the baby of Joan and James...he is too young methinks for Jane, Margaret or Jemima. If William married a dau of Richard and Grace Powell's, she wasn't named Jane as their dau Jane married Elias Wood who has just died. Grace did not gift any wives of men in this will, which gives rise to an assumption of widowed sons-in-law that she is leveraging against claims. I believe Wm of James had a Jane and a Powell. But, I can't make time for this Powell to be the guy who dies in 1744 and has all the kids. We are assuming that this Wm is the son of James based on the fact that all the other folk are from this MD cluster...why bring in a new Rgn family from another family group...grrr However, I think I have Charles...see below. Jemima married in 1745, Margaret bore an ileg. child in 1746 and married in 1748. Jane married in 1746. Either these ladies were all into their 30's for these events, ,unusual, or they came into the county already born elsewhere. We do not know when Wm and Chas arrive in Stafford...just that they were here...for Wm by 1717, and for Chas by 1731. Which brings up an issue. According to a researcher whom I don't know well, the MD Gen Soc in some issue, makes a case for ID of the children of John 2 Rgn who died in 1728 Charles Co MD. I intend to PERSI this and find it. She claims that John 2's children are Anne ( marries James Ross) John who died in 1740, Mary, Mathew, and Charles. It has occurred to me that this is the Charles who appears in Stafford and would explain why he gets such a late start on his family compared to William. He's William's nephew and his father died in 1728 and he did not come to VA until after the settlement of the estate which was 1730...so thus we have Charles, son of John 2 in St Paul's for 1731. Of course, this means we still have to find Charles of James... There is a hole between the records of Charles Co MD and St Paul's in VA...1692-1716 for our Rgns. These three ladies fall in that period. I will point out that Mathew was here, and quite likely had Margaret and Jemima ( the latter which is a Powell name... sigh) I have ID'ed the Mathew that sells in 175X in Charles Co MD as one of the sons of John2, who's wife Elizabeth XXX Wood Regan Carroll admins the will. So, I believe the Mathew who dies in 1716 is the son of James. Could he be the father of another William? groan, M'ellen -------------------------------------------------- From: "james garrett" <jwgarrett@webtv.net> Sent: Wednesday, August 11, 2010 10:42 AM To: <ragan-roots@rootsweb.com> Subject: Re: [RAGAN-ROOTS] Wn Regan b. 1690 MD > > M'ellen > > I have to admit, you have lost me re: Wm/Wm Powell "R's" > > Let me see if I understand you correctly? > > James/Joan has a son Wm#1 b. 1690? > when and where does this Wm#1 die if he outlives son Wm#2 who dies 1744? > Is Keziah & Elizabeth in the 1747 estate settlement his (Wm#2) siblings > and Wm (#1) his father? > When was Wm #2 born? 1722? if so he was only 22 yrs old with children???? > Wm#1 is md to Elizabeth Bridget Powell? > > Wm #1 & Wm#2/d. 1744 are the ones in Grace Powells 1734 will? > Wm#2 then dies in 1744? > > Are you saying that Wm# 1 went to Surry VA. > > Is Wm R of 1765 Bute not Wm-3 s/o Wm-2 & Bridget (if son Wm-3#2 died > 1744?) > > Then who is the Wm R/d. 1770 in Bute md to Priscilla? > > I thought Jane who md Douglas Evans was d/o Charles-2. > > Please Clarify!!!!!! > > I think the 2 (two) 1770 Bute Wm R's are > Wm R of Surry & Wm R b. by 1750 (s/o Wm, dec'd & Pricsilla) > > the 1771 Bute Wm Riggin may be Wm b. by 1750 (s/o Wm & Pricsilla) > > > > JW Garrett > > > > for Ragan-Roots archives go to > > http://archiver.rootsweb.com/th/index?list=ragan-roots > ------------------------------- > To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to > RAGAN-ROOTS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the > quotes in the subject and the body of the message >
