If the two Riggins, I have in MO and then my John Riggin in ILL are 3 of those brothers then this could be a big clue. The other brother(my Great Grandfather Henry was born in Tenn in 1806 according to his tombstone. I believe that Henry may have been born to another mother and was a 1/2 brother to John, but in Court records John calls Henry his brother. With the date of 1806 and in Tenn that means that the family was on the move from N.C. to Tenn and then up to ILL. The two Riggins in MO are the sticking point in this search. I just can't be 100% sure they are brothers to my Henry and John, but they sure could be related and all headed up North. I do know for sure that John Riggin was married in Franklin Co. Tenn in 1807 one year after Henry was born. John and Peggy Farris Riggin are in Madison Co., ILL in ca. 1816/17. So it appears they were in Tenn for a good 10 years based on the birth of Henry and John marriage to Peggy. This is all fact on these dates and places. There will be more to come............. One more possibility, James, son of William Powell Rgn who died in 1770, married Jane Dickson. They had four sons... ( this is an old file, so take with a grain of salt) the sons were James Joseph, Powell, Thomas, and Green. All born in Orange NC...which was from other co's. James had Rev War Bounty land in TN, but I am not sure he lived there. However, Jane, his widow died there. Which probably means she lived with a kid. She died at like 106 years old still trying to get the government to pay a pension. M'ellen your comment that James Joseph b. 1776 & Powell b. 1777 were two of the four sons of James b. 1756 "may" be possible since they seem to stay close together in KY & MO whereas John & Henry stay close together in TN & IL. But when did James marry Jane Dickson in Orange NC? was it 1777 or 1780? Need to check the 1790 Orange NC census to look at the HH enumeration for # of males in HH age <16 b. 1774-1790. Both dates appear in the looong series of applications made for Rev War pension. I need to go into the bowels of this very old house and did out my originals... haven't done this bunch in forever... there was a James Riggin in 1802 who was providing bacon to men who worked on line bet NC and cherokees. Since McMinn TN was formed in 1819 from indian land near NC line, could this be James of Orange NC? Is it in a Rev War grant area... like I said it has been a while, but as I recall, he moved onto the grant. There is a funny dip-down area of TN that went into NC that was the Bounty area.
