Monday morning March 15, 2010 Dear Ragan-Roots folks, I like to add my thoughts on the Ragan/Reagan families of Newberry District, South Carolina. After much studying on these Ragan/Reagan families in Newberry District, South Carolina, there were three brothers, John Ragan who married Elizabeth Edwards, Reason Ragan who married Rachel Connell, and Daniel Ragan who married Leah Wright - all came from Frederick County, Virginia. All three brothers were the sons of "first" Rezin and Anne Ragan of Anne Arundel County, Maryland; Frederick County, Virginia; and Westmoreland County (later Fayette County), Pennsylvania. There is older Reason Ragan who appears in 1790 Federal Census. And he does appear again in 1800 Federal Census. But, then he disappeared after 1800. This Reason Ragan is the one who married Rachel Connell. Also he was mentioned as the one of the settlers who lived among the quaker families in Newberry District, South Carolina. Each one of three brothers had their own families. It is true that some of these Ragan and Reagan families left Newberry District, South Carolina and went to Ohio first and Indiana later. Then some of the Ragan and Reagan families left there too and went to Georgia, Alabama and Tennessee later. It does get more complicated among these Ragan and Reagan families because when and they have had used same name for several generations. It is very similar to my own family who came from Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina and Tennessee. On "first" Rezin Ragan, son of Timothy and Mary Lary Ragan, the real proof for the naming of Rezin came from Holy Bible. You can find it there. Rezin is correct spelling for him. But the name of "Reason" is English version for it that does appear in contemporary sources today. All sons of Timothy and Mary Lary Ragan were named for these male individuals in Holy Bible. And I am still researching on where all daughters' first names originated from. I do welcome your comment(s) and input(s). Sincerely, Donald B. Saturday morning March 20, 2010 Dear Ragan-Roots Folks, To answer your question regarding the 1790 Federal Census of Newberry District, South Carolina for Ragan/Reagan families, you are correct except for Darby Ragan/Reagan. On Darby Ragan/Reagan, I am still puzzled about him, and am still researching to be sure whom he belongs to. Sincerely, Donald B.
