James, Welcome back, Prove to me that Elizabeth Bridget Powell was the daughter of William Powell instead of being the daughter of his brother Richard Powell. William Powell had 2 daus named Elizabeth and I find nothing except web crock saying William R married a dau of William Powell.. Or prove he didn't marry a daughter of Richard and then a dau of William's...one before the other... The Powell that Grace Powell leaves guns and a sword to is old enough to receive them in 1733. The guy born in 1722 was 11. St Paul's records does NOT say William and Bridget had a son William Powell it says " Powel son of William and Elizabeth Bridget Riggins April 10 1722"...no William in kid's name mentioned, and no Powell mentioned in the father's name. BTW, William and Elizabeth Bridget begin having children in 1731...the same year Charles begins.. According to the Charles Co Circuit Court, William Regon was born in 1690 and Charles in 1692. So, in 1731, they are 41 and 39 years old. It is logical there are older children not recorded here. I think the recording scraps we have began then. I think 1722-1770 leaving a bunch of minors for a almost 50 year old is stretching probability...either we have 2 wives and 2 families, or we have two William P's.....I think the William in Surry is dad to the Wm P who dies in 1770. As to the 6 sons...I have loads of paper on James and Powell... that's about it for GOOD paper. We cannot account for any children of Mathew's beyond Chapman's granddaughter, Elizabeth. He and Sarah could have had more. Charles and William both had to have had older children before 1731. We don't know about John Regan's unaccounted 2 sons. We have a William in Surry... LOL...see more notes below...M'ellen -------------------------------------------------- From: "james garrett" <jwgarrett@webtv.net> Sent: Wednesday, July 28, 2010 1:31 PM To: <ragan-roots@rootsweb.com> Subject: Re: [RAGAN-ROOTS] William R's > > M'ellen > > OK I'm back > > > > Wm Regon's-2 (James-1/Joan) wife was Elizabeth Bridget, thus, I dont think > he was md to Graces daughter (a Powell). While in the library for 7 hours last week I encountered other bits of Rgn folk. In 1729/30 Stafford VA there were two men of interest. A William and a Michael Reagan appear on a list of tithables. In a tome entitled 1705 Virginia Quit Rent Rolls ...corrected edition...ed Harold Oliver, is a great deal about Spencers. I know some of you have an interest in Spencers. In Stafford, these Spencers are tangled with John Washington and folk named Stearman/Sturman, and others. I can't send photos to Roots Web. Anyone with a bonified interest , tell me.( when in the library, I take photos of ref books. I took over 2000 this week. Also of interest is Westmorland Co VA Deeds, Patents etc 1665-1677 John Frederick Dorman This John Washington is the Great grandfather of George of note. He acts as Justice so is all over the court records. He died in 1675 leaving much to his sons Lawrence and John ( who becomes a lawyer) It is this second John who is referenced by Grace Powell ( and others) in her will. Lawrence died young. His widow, Mildred Warner Washington , married a George Gale, who took the money and ran to England with young Augustine and Mildred Washington. John Washington Jr sued on 2 continents to recover the money and the 2 kidlets. Augustine was to become the father of George. Filed in the court records is a receipt from John Washington for Augustine and Mildred to George Gale. Funny. John married a Mary Massey. Winifred Massey married Elisha Powell, son of William Jr. It is Lawrence Washington's children that marry into the Dade, Alexander and Foote family. I need to study further to see the exact connection here. The Richard Foote Jr referenced in Grace Powell's will is grandfather to the Henry that married Margaret Colclough Foote Shearin Burford that is all over the NC records with various Rgn folk and whose daughter married Cador Powell. I have a claim in hand that Elizabeth Reagan, daughter of Willam and Amy, died in 1728 at age 11... I will try to find proof. There were two Elizabeths for William. I still believe William Riggin married a daughter of Richard Powell first...
