Hi...My apologies to all for being absent for such a long period. The death of my only much younger sibling had me staring at walls. Moving right along.... William...not a rare name,,, unfortunately.... I'd like to talk about William R's...I don't care about spelling...remember there are no spelling rules until the late 19th- early 20th century... I'd like to discuss William R's between 1660 and 1790...in this country... I give fair warning...THERE IS NOT A DOUBT IN THIS STUBBORN HEAD THAT James and Joan of Charles Co MD, and William of VA and NC ( and Wm Powell) and Powell of SC, and Francis of NC are all one family. I have not a doubt that there is a generation missing or half a generation by 2 wives, between William of MD and the William Powell who leaves sons in NC. ... I am sick at all the dumb Powell Riggins cxxp on line wherein everyone mixes Powell R of SC with Powell R, the son of William Powell of NC. The Powell in NC married Ruth Trice and she outlived him ...he married no one else. The guy named Powell Riggins in SC married Sarah Holloway and never left SC...Yikes...can't these dumkoffs handle 2 men of the same name??? Okay, I'm calmer now. We have in Charles Co MD... Charles County Circuit Court, Birth, Deaths & Marriage Records, Liber Q Regon, William s/o James Regon and Joan Regon of Nanjemy, bricklayer, b. 31 Jan 1690 A big lump of Powells, Colcloughs, Footes, Riggins/Regons/Raggans, Shearins , Durhams, Powells, Bells Woods, etc etc left Charles co MD and went to Stafford Co VA. Stafford Co divolved into many VA counties. By the second or third generation, the members of these families are selling out and buying in Granville Co NC. I have reams of proofs which I have this week condensed into 100 + pages of tight solid data. 1760 is roughly the date they all enter Granville. The original Granville Co NC was most of the state. It was repeatedly split. I can trace exact members of these families though this journey...except ours. However, I find it stupid in the extreme to suppose the entire cast of characters is the same though 3 states...except the R's. Like some kookoo bird laid a strange R. family in the cluster nest, just to fool us...nope...that dog won't hunt. So...we have In Stafford Co VA the will of Grace Powell, widow of Richard Powell, mother in law of Elijah Wood, son of John Wood of Charles Co MD and , I believe, Joan XXX Regon Wood, widow of James, who married John Wood after James' death. If I am correct, the William Regon mentioned in this will is the son of James and Joan and the half brother of Elijah Wood. At the time of Grace Powell's will, Elijah Wood and Jane Powell Wood are both dead. We know this because Grace had to adminx Elijah's estate in lieu of next of kin.: === STAFFORD COUNTY VA WILL BOOK M; 1729-1748; THE ANTIENT PRESS pp. 145-147 May 23d 1734 We the Subscribers in Obedience to order of Court dated the 8th of May instant being first sworn by vertue of said order mett at the house of ELIJAH WOOD Deceased and appraised his Estate as follows .. Powell At Court held for Stafford county 10th July 1734 inventory and appraisement Estate of Elijah Wood admitted to record So, the Jane mentioned in this will below is Not Grace's daughter. I believe it is possible that William did marry a daughter of Grace's as did Elijah. I believe that William Regon, Powell Regon and and Jane Regon are son in law, and 2 grandchildren of Grace Powell's. The birth date of 1690 is adjusted to the modern calendar, so was originally 1689. I have a birth date of 1688 for the father of William Powell Riggins of NC. I have no idea where that date came from...anyone?? It looks to me that either William Regon only has 2 kids that Grace Powell gives a hoot about, or, he only has two kids. He could have remarried and had more, but these two were hers... Cut me some slack here... I'm speculating... Let me propose that the Powell in SC is Grace's grandson, mentioned in the will. Now, the kids in the NC will would be grandchildren of William in Stafford and nephews of Powell in SC. Can anyone do anything with that? What do we do with the William in VA who buys in NC, and the William who shows briefly in SC with Powell and the William who people keep referring to as William DAvid...has anyone every found a thing with William DAVID on it ? We all carry a birth date of 1722 for William Powell Riggins, the guy with the NC will in the 1770's in NC. Where did we get that> For what it is worth, yes, John Washington is one of THOSE Washingtons. There are many more interconnections. We can speculate on Grace's maiden name... So please folks, punch away...let's see if we can make this work...or not...M'ellen
M'ellen OK I'm back Wm Regon's-2 (James-1/Joan) wife was Elizabeth Bridget, thus, I dont think he was md to Graces daughter (a Powell). Wm's-2 birth date, is 31 Jan 1690. His son Wm Powell Riggin-3 was b. 10 Ap 1722 (from St Paul's Parish records). His will was dated 4 Apr 1770 & recorded May 1770 Bute NC. Wm Powell "R"-3 had sons 6 sons 2 of whom were Wm (David?)-4 b. abt 1750 & Powell-4 b. abt 1753. I think that son Wm (David?)-4 b. abt 1750 was in Chatham NC in 1790 & in Pendleton SC in 1800 where he appears with his alleged son Powell Riggins-5 b. 1775 (md to Sarah Holloway). This Wm Powell-5 apparently died 1845 in SC. Also I think the Wm-5 (b. 1755-1774) in 1800 Chatham is W'ms-4 son. The other son (of Wm-3) Powell "R"-4 b. abt 1753 (md to Ruth Trice) was in Orange NC in 1790, 1800, and died 1806. There is apparently another Wm Powell "R" b. 1777 and died 1853 MO. I know nothing more of this person. But why would Grace Powell mention Wm "R" (b. 1690) and his son Wm Powell "R" (b. 1722in her 1734 will? It would be logical to speculate that Wm-2 was a son-in-law & his son was Grace's grandson, and assume Jane "R" was Wm's daughter. Wm did not have a "known" daughter named Jane according to birth records. His only known children were John b. 1717, Powel b. 1722, Keziah b. 1727, Elizabeth b. 1731, Bridget b. 1733. JW Garrett
