The back-up for our RAGAN-ROOTS database can be found at our cousin Bill REAGAN's site: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/billreagan/ The file is called RAGAN.Zip. After downloading you'll need to decompress it using PKZip/UnZip (for PCs) or something like ZipIt (for Macs). You'll then have the GedCom, which can be imported into your genealogy software. The last version of the database was uploaded back in June. It has about 30.5k people in it. Since that time we've added another couple thousand or so people (32,617 actually). If you wanted to hold off for awhile I should be exporting another GedCom soon. Bill hasn't been feeling too well lately so I didn't want to impose on him. He has been very gracious to offer his site as a place for our cousins to download our GedCom and access our shared information. And we should all thank him for that. Thanks Bill! And speaking of shared information ... If you'd like to have your family listed in our database please send it to me directly at: [email protected] And in order to get it into the database as quickly as possible I'll need to have it in GedCom format. That way it will be imported directly. In other words it will save me a *lot* of typing and time. Time is very valuable to me. ;-) Your GedCom can be pasted into an email (if small enough) or sent as an attached file. Checking our subscriber list tonight I see that we now have 292 members in our group. WOW! That's really nice. Just think of all the RAGAIN/RAGAN/RAGIN/RAGON/REAGAN/REGAN/RIGGAN info we have gathered here. I really appreciate all of you who have made contributions to our database and sent information to our discussion list. It just wouldn't have been possible without you all. (Around here we say Y'all ;-) THANK YOU! Another site that you may find interesting is the RAGAN-ROOTS Archive. It's a site where you can search through all the discussion sent to the server. It's found at RootsWeb ... ================= To search the RAGAN-ROOTS archives: http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl then type in: ragan-roots =========== There you can do a search for any 'keyword' sent to the list. Try searching for "Sepncer RAGAN" and see what you find. Or try searching for just "Spencer" That way you'll find all the variations of the surname that have a Spencer in their family. Later everyone. Michael W. RAGAN ============== RAGAN-ROOTS List Moderator ============== I get by with a little help from my friends. ...
