Fred, My sister La Faye Sutkin and I are gggrandaughters of John H. Reagan. He was born October 8, 1818 in Sevier County Tennessee in what is now downtown Gatlinburg TN. He was the son of Timothy Richard and Elizabeth Lusk a Reagan. Timothy Richard was the son of Richard and Julia Ann Schultz Reagan. Richard was the son of Timothy Ragan and Elizabeth Trigg Reagan. There are at least two very good books about John H. One is his autobiography, "Memories". The other is "Not Without Honor" by Ben Proctor. He was not only the Post Master General of the Confederacy, but he was a United States Congressman before and after the War and then he served in the U.S. Senate. He authored the Homestead Act and the Interstate Commerce Act. He resigned his seat in the senate to return to Texas at the request of Governor Hogg to help create and head the Texas Railroad Commission. He was the last surviving member of Jefferson's cabinet when he died March 5, 1905 in Palestine, Texas. -----Original Message----- From: Fred Hagan <[email protected]> To: [email protected] <[email protected]> Date: Sunday, July 25, 1999 6:04 PM Subject: [RAGAN-ROOTS-L] JOHN H.
