To Barbara "okay help me out", who doesn't know what to do next. There should be some kind of a library near you, where you can look at (or order in) census films. Figure out when and where the family was at the time of the 1900, 1910, or 1920 census, and try to find them there. The census will tell where the parents were born, what the father's trade or profession was, etc. You can learn a great deal from census'. Also, city directories are helpful, and county land records.
