    1. [RAGAN-ROOTS-L] REAGAN Family Genealogy
    2. Hello Everyone! This came from [email protected] via private email. If anyone can help let me know. Michael ============== Hello, I have just recently done a little (and I do mean a little) research into my ancestry. I was born 63 years ago in Overton County TN - the ninth of ten children of Andrew Jackson and Carrie Nation Reagan. My youngest sister and I, along with our husbands, traveled to Fentress County TN a couple of weeks ago to see if we could find out anything about our grandmother on our father's side. We are almost positive she was a Beaty and she died when my father was very young. My father was the son of Samuel Reagan and Nancy Beaty (?) Reagan and was born in Fentress County. We know that our father's grandmother's name was Margaret and think she was a Garrett (sp?) but never knew what my father's grandfather's name was. In the Fentress County 1880 census I found a family for a John Reagan whose wife was Margaret and whose oldest child was Samuel (17 at the time according to the census). There were seven other children listed in 1880 and checking with an older sister, we know this is the right family because she knew the names of these uncles and aunts of my father. I do recall hearing of some of them but my family left Overton County when I was seven and I never asked a lot of questions. Most of the children of these aunts and uncles lived in the same community in Overton County as my family did and that place is near Allons Tennessee. The church where a lot of these people are buried has a large cemetery and is named Fellowship. My father's grandmother is buried there but I have no idea where his grandfather was buried. His father was buried at a cemetery in Clay County - St. John's. After my father's mother died. his father remarried and had several other children. There were three children born between 1886 and 1889. I'm not really sure when the youngest of the three males was born but my father was the second child and was born in late 1886 or some time in 1887. He said his birth date was December 1886 but a 1900 census record showed it as some time in 1887. He had an older brother and a younger brother. The older brother was named Sherman and the younger named General Grant. Anyway, last week I went poking around in the census records in the local library and the only John Reagan I could find about the same age as the one I know to be my great-grandfather was a son of Jeremiah Reagan. This Jeremiah Reagan is listed in the 1850 census as living in Monroe County Tennessee, 66 years old and married to Rachael (no last name shown), aged 57. Both of these people were born in Virginia according to the census. Their children at the time were listed as follows: William P. - 36 Jane Ann - 29 Richard - 22 Phebe (Phoebe?) - 20 Benjamin - 19 Daniel - 17 Sabra (?) - 14 John - 12 In looking at the Ragan family database I found on Bill Reagan's website, I found a family with children with these names. There are even dates of death for some of these. I have no idea if this is the same John Reagan as the John Reagan who was living in Fentress County in 1880 (this John Reagan is shown as 41 and place of birth as Tennessee). There was another John Reagan I found who may be the John Reagan who is the son of Jeremiah. He is shown as 21 in 1860 and married to a Mary J. (age 20) and with a one-year old son named Samuel (however, my grandfather Samuel is shown as 17 in 1880 and living in Fentress County but I do not know when he married Nancy Beaty (?) but must have been by some time in 1886. If this is all very confusing to you, then it is to me also. I was hoping you could shed some light on the John Reagan who I found listed in Fentress County TN in 1880, age 41, married to Margaret (Garrett?) and had eight children as follows: Samuel........17 (my grandfather) Joel G..........15 (my sister who still lives in Overton County said there was one called "Gabe" and I ..............................suspect this is the one.) Abraham......14 Sarah...........12 William..........9 George..........7 Eliza.............5 (married a Claborn or Clayborn) Martha J........2 If you have any information at all about any of these people, I would certainly appreciate it. Thank you so much for your time. Mabel Anne (Reagan) Scott
