You should (if you have not already) download his Ragan/Reagan/Regan/ Reagin GEDCOM file from the website one of the Ragan/Reagan/Regan/Reagin cousins maintains. This is at the website mentioned in the attached letter from Michael to another list member: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/billreagan/ Your letter caught my eye because, first, I was sure I remembered a "Darby" from my wife's genealogy, and, second, because of the Newberry, SC connection. I do, indeed, find a "Darby". His date of birth is about right. The "Darby" that I have was born in 1748 according to my chart (which, btw, came from Michael Ragan's master GEDCOM available at the site referred to above) as compared to your information of "about 1750". This Darby was the son of Timothy Ragan who was born about 1714 in Anne Arundel Co., MD, and died about 1768 in Baltimore. This Timothy was a son of Timothy Ragan (b. about 1678, probably in Ireland, and d. 03/14/1743/1744 in Anne Arundel Co., MD) and Mary Lary (or O'Leary) (b. about 1686, probably in Ireland, and d. 01/23/1764 in Anne Arundel Co., MD). This Timothy Ragan and Mary Lary are the progenitors of a huge number of the American Ragans. Their descendants spell the name variously as Ragan, Reagan, Regan, Reagin, etc. so don't pay to much attention to the spelling. According to my file, this "Darby" was born in 1748 and died in Greene County, TN in 1814. He married an "unknown first name) Wright" and had a number of children but none named "Benjamin" that is recorded in my file. There is shown a "son/daughter?" Ragan born in 1775. There are other "Darbys" who were born later and were descendants of the Darby named above or of a brother of that Darby. The second interesting point is Darby's sojourn in Newberry, SC. My wife's ancestor, John Reagin (Ragan) lived and died there. John's father was a son of Reason (Rezin?) Reagan (Ragan) born about 1720 in Anne Arundel County, MD, and died 1777 in Frederick Co., VA. Reaon (Rezin) was the son of the first Timothy named above. This would have made the Darby I have the first cousin of John Reagin of Newberry, SC. Newberry (Newberry District), SC and Union Co., SC, were both communities in which a large number of Quakers lived (the Reagins and large number of their Ragan progenitors and cousins were or had been Quakers), and your Darby's sojourn there strongly hints that he might have been born a Quaker if not himself a Quaker. (Many of the Ragan Quakers apparently abandoned the faith as they dispersed and lost touch with other Friends.) My wife's great great great grandmother was Elizabeth Reagin (daughter of John) who married John Edmundson. John Edmundson's great great grandfather had been William Edmundson who was the founder of Quakerism in Ireland and there some evidence that the first Timothy may have converted to Quakerism before leaving Ireland for Anne Arundel County. A number of other Quakers lived in Anne Arundel County which is rather close to Chester County, PA, the principal Quaker settlement in Pennsylvania. Elizabeth died in Newberry and is buried there. John and his children, however, migrated to Giles County, TN (which borders on Lauderdale County, AL) and many Edmundsons lived in both those counties. Other Reagins also migrated to Giles County. I think that these had either already abandoned the Quaker faith or did so within a generation or two after migrating to Giles County. All of this is fascinating to me. Hope that this helps in some way and that you make all your connections, whether or not connected to the above. Henry B. I d/l'd Bill's latest copy of our history & just wanted to take a second to tell you that there are a gazillion doubles there. I'm still am doing a happy feet dance that he's given us all the info that he has!!! ;-) He had more info than I ever could have dreamed of finding by myself. As always, I'm thanking you for making this available to us, Cuz! ;-) Thanks to you & Bill, alot of those names that I keep seeing make sense to me now. I know exactly where they fit into my side of our Reagan family!=20 Again... I'm standing.. I'm applauding ya~ Cuz' Marty >> Marty, Thanks to you also. And all our other cousins too. I'm well aware = there are duplicates in the database (I didn't think there were quite a gazillion = though ;-). Sometimes it just isn't possible for me to import a new lineage = into the database and see if it's already there. It's just plain tough when you = are dealing with a total list of over 30,000 people. Oh well ... I'm glad everyone is so forgiving. I should also mention that I still don't have all your family in the = database yet Marty. I'm plunking away on it a little each night. I'll have it = in there sooner or later. Maybe ;-) Don't worry if your lineage is already there. Just keep 'em coming = cousins (GedComs prefered)! Somewhere down the line we'll get them all linked together (maybe). For those of you that didn't know, you can download the master = RAGAN-ROOTS database in GedCom format from our cousin Bill REAGAN's site at: =20 http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/billreagan/ I hope everyone has a nice weekend.
