I have recently found I derive from two sets of Ragan's. My sister says that would explain my brother's behavior! My father's parents were both Ragan. His mother was Gila Beatrice Ragan, who was born out of wedlock to Almira Elizabeth Ragan of Houston County, TN(Yellow Creek area). Almira's parents were John C. Ragan and Emily Halliburton. His father was Horace Clark Ragan, son of William Monroe Ragan and Maude Blocker of Dickson County(Slayden), TN. Now my curiosity is up and am wondering are these two families related! I have traced John C. Ragan(b. 8-15-1834) back to his parents who are Jesse Crowder Ragan and Nancy Green Mitchell. Emily Halliburton's parents are Charles Halliburton, Jr.( b. 3-17-1795 in Pearson Cty, NC) and Lucinda Cooksey(b. after 1843). They were married 2-28-1831. Here's something interesting I found also. After Jesse Crowder Ragan died, Nancy married Charles Halliburton(Emily's father) on 3-11-1846. So from the time John C. was 12 and Emily was 9, they lived in the same household. Below are John C. James Lewis Sarah(Sallie) Laura b. 8-11-1873 Nora b. 12-1876 d. 8-1883 Tommie Burton(female) b. 4-25-1880 d. 2-1914 If anyone has information on either of these two families, please let me know. Since discovering the above, I've asked some older relatives who say the two Ragan's are not related. Maybe they don't know or they won't say! But I'd like to know.
