    1. [RAGAN-ROOTS-L] Re: Ragan Database
    2. Steve, I'm sending a cc of this mail to the group in case anyone else has some input for us. Got your GedCom and thanks for the input. It came through in fine shape. I imported it into a new file so I could look it over and compare it to the main database. I found several curious things in your file though: In the list of children for David RAGAN (1810-1890) & Nancy JONES you have several duplicate listings: 3-William S. RAGANs 3-Thomas Jefferson RAGANs (and 1-Thomas J. RAGAN) 2- T.S. RAGANs Under their (David & Nancy) child David C. you show 3 wives - Gertrude POTTS & America Lilburn GREGORY (listed twice) William F. HAMILTON (Mar 1881-abt 1887) - All his children are shown as being born after his death (I'll bet that's a tough one to pull off ;-). There were other things which I wonder about, but one I found *very interesting* is where you show the father of David RAGAN (1810-1890) as Spencer. I guess I'm curious about this link, first because in our main database I didn't have a father for David, and second I've found a Robert RAGAN family in KY back in the late 1790's-1800's. And they had a child named Spencer. My info shows this Spencer as having died in 1796 though. So I guess it couldn't be the same one. The Robert RAGAN (b. 1758, PA, d. 1799, KY) family came from VA into KY in the late 1790's and somehow there was an epdemic which killed off most of the family. The only survivors were four sons (Robert Jr., Abner, Reuben S., & Thompson). As I mentioned they also had a son named Spencer. And one of the surviving sons (Robert Jr.) passed the Spencer name onto one of his sons. Actually he named him Henry Spencer. So I found the Spencer in your file interesting. And I wonder if anyone has anything more on him. Like birthdate, spouse ...etc. Back in the Spring of 1998 I made a trip to the Allen Co., Library in Ft. Wayne, IN. Some say this library is one of the *best* genealogical libraries, second only to the one in Salt Lake City, UT. It was there I discovered an old book named Robert Ragan Sr. Genealogy. Actually it was a copy (of a copy, of a copy ...etc.) of the book. It was *very* difficult to read. So, of course, I just had to have a copy of it. I brought it home and over the Summer I did a transcription of the book so others could do their research. If you'd like I could send you a copy of it via email. (I guarantee it'll be easier to read :) Getting back to your GedCom ... what I'll do is to clean up your file a little (eliminate some of the duplicates) and import it into our database intact. Oh, one more thing ... other rooters that given input to the database and have shown interest in your line are: [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] Again I thank you for sending your family information so we can include it in our main database. We appreciate your input. Later cuz Michael W. RAGAN =============== RAGAN-ROOTS List Moderator =============== My wife and I always compromise.
