    3. bonnie: i'm sorry that i don't know which reagin nancy wiseman married, but i can almost certainly tell you something about his lineage. one of my wife's ancestors was elizabeth reagin who was born in newberry, sc, on June 23, 1784. she was the youngest of 11 childrn of john reagin and elizabeth edwards. if your nancy wiseman was born in 1802 and married a reagin of reasonably contemporaneous age, it is likely that he would have been the son of one of her elder brothers. joseph was born in 1763, daniel in 1765, jess in 1769, john jr. in 1773, william in 1775, and reason in 1779. i have their names and birthdates and most cases the dates of their deaths. i have many of the names of their respective wives. i only have the names of children of john jr and william, however, and none of them married a nancy wiseman. accordingly i would suspect that she married one of the children of joseph, daniel, jess or reason. reason was born in 1779 and, therefore, may be a less likely candidate than his older brothers, although it would certainly not be unheard to have been married and had a child by 1802 (nancy's dob). i wish i could be more specific, but that's all i can surmise. almost certainly nancy's husband would have been the grandson of john reagin and elizabeth edwards. john was born in frederick county, va, the son of reason (or, maybe, rezin) reagin/ragan who was born in about 1720 in anne arundel county, maryland and died in about 1777 in frederick county, va. he was married to anne beaumont (b. abt 1725 in anne arundel county and d. abt 1770 in frederick county). reason/rezin was the son of timothy ragan/reagan/reagin/regan (an maybe four or five other variant spellings adopted his descendants) and his wife, mary lary (or maybe leary). timothy was born around 1678, whether in maryland or ireland is disputed, although there is some evidence that his father immigrated from ireland that he was born in maryland. he died in anne arundel county march 14, 1743/44. mary lary was born either in ireland or maryland in about 1686 and died in anne arundel county on january 23, 1764. many of the ragan/reagan/reagin family were quakers. reason and john were quakers. there was a sizable colony of quakers in newberry. if john didn't leave the quaker faith, many of his children did. some of them, however, remained quakers and then migrated to indiana to one or more the quaker communites located there. many of timothy and mary's children had moved a generation or so earlier to indiana. those that stayed in newberry began to leave the friends society around the turn of the 18th century to the 19th century. my wife's ancestor, elizabeth married john edmundson of newberry who was also of quaker origins. after her death 1825 she was buried in the reagin family cemetery in newberry. john and some of their of children migrated to giles county, tennessee, which shares a common boundary to the south with limestone county, al. when he migrated, others of newberry (edmundsons, gilberts, etc) also migrated there and later lived in giles county and limestone county, al, but, i'm sorry to say, i can't be specific with names and relationships. there were, however, more than a few. timothy ragan and mary lary are the progenitors of a great majority of the ragan/reagan/reagin family members who subscribe to this ragan list group. they are also the ancestors of michael ragan who is the owner/maintainer of the list. he has posted instructions for how to get to and download his gigantic gedcom file. you will find more detailed lineages there. henry hardegree a "ragan rooter" by marriage to anita bains hardegree ([email protected]) -----Original Message----- From: bonniewm [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, September 18, 1999 10:37 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [RAGAN-ROOTS-L] Re: Introduction to mailing list Hi, My name is Bonnie. I have just joined the Ragan Mailing List. My Nancy Wiseman b.1802 in Newberry Co. SC married a Reagin (first name unknown). I am seeking the first name of her Reagin husband and his parents and siblings. Their marriage must have occurred in SC as their first son was born there in about 1829. They later moved to AL. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
