    1. [RAGAN-ROOTS-L] Re: Randolph Co. RAGANs
    2. Alicia, I'm going to answer your email by sending a copy to our group. This contains some info that may help some of our other cousins. In a message dated 3/29/00 1:00:38 PM, ANortham writes: >I bet he appreciates us all knowing his age! ;-) > I don't think he'll care. Of course he hasn't responded to my 'Happy Birthday' message yet. Maybe he is upset. :-( >Dangit, Michael, I still can't make a connection and I've got so many "closes"! > And here I am in Alabama with you! You and I have just got to be kin. Actually I may have fooled you kiddo. I'm not "Southern Born and Southern Bred" (love that song). I was born in Flint, Michigan. > What do you know of Randolph Co. Ragans? I know a little, very little. Are you talking about Randoplh Co., GA or AL? Is there a Randolph Co., AL? I just did a search through our database and only found Randolph Co., GA, VA, NC, IL. (not all were RAGANs - see the report below. There were 55 hits.) > The information I need is about to go with a 90 year old aunt. She keeps >promising to talk, but doesn't. And I guess a well brought up Southern >girl just doesn't press a 90 year old aunt. > >Bummer. Bummer is right. It may be hard Alicia, but you *need* to get her to talk to you. Make it a point to go visit her and be persistant about it. Spend some time with her, ask questions. Ask her if she has any old photos of the family that she might show you. See to it the photos are marked with the names of the people in them (after she's gone you won't know who they are). Ask her about her parents, about her grandparents, about her g-grandparents, about her siblings ...etc. Show her that you're interested in her family. You are aren't you? Then ask her kiddo! Once she's gone all her information will be gone with her. Many times I could kick myself for not spending more time with my grandparents asking questions. But now they're all gone. Now it's just TOO LATE. Of course back when they were all alive I wasn't all that interested in genealogy. Fortunately when my grandmother RAMER passed away back in 1985 I had a chance to sit down with grandpa and go through a lot of their old photos. He gave me quite a few of them and I wrote names on the back of everyone he knew about. I even wrote names on the back of the photos he didn't give me. (I inherited them later.) I'm sure glad I did that! > >Oh, well, Happy Birthday to your brother from a Ragan cousin in Cullman >Co. > >Alicia Here's the result of a search through the database for "Randolph Co" (if you're interested in seeing more on any of these people send me the "ID" number listed. I'll generate a report on that person): =========== Last Name First Name Birth Date Birth Place Person ID ANDERSON Amos J. ca 1821 Randolph Co., Illinois 254 ANDERSON Carroll 3 Aug 1827 370 BIGGS Rosanna 27 Aug 1808 3249 CALLAWAY Lucy H 15 Aug 1819 GA 14303 ELLIS Joseph 1808 Tennessee 33286 FINNEY Clarence 22 Oct 1875 Illinois 2401 GROVER Harley E. 29 Jan 1927 31011 HOWELL Eli 33806 IVEY Wike 1801 Southampton Co., VA 30158 KISER Wiley Jackson 21 Feb 1815 Cabarrus Co, NC, in the hills of western NC.
