As I recall, I was chasing Paynes at the time, and failed to follow back on the RGN's. Rowan is a red flag. His father may have been Amos Ragan and mother Elizabeth Payne. I am descended through their daughter Joan /Jane Ragens b. @1778/80 in Rowan County. N.C. and died sometime between 1831/1834 along the Cumberland Trail as they moved to Indiana. Joan/Jane Ragans married Isaac Payne b. 1780, md. 21 Aug 1806 in Rowan County, N.C. bond given for the bride by a Welborn, d. 1850/1865 in Monroe County, Indiana. His burial place and exact death date are unknown to me at this time. I am willing to share what documentation I have. Some of which was furnished by Elizabeth Ragan. Children from Family Bible were James Payne, b. 5 Aug 1807, probably in N.C. d. 13 Jan. 1874 in Monroe Co., IN; Sarah Payne b. @ 1812 nothing more known; Susannah Payne, b. 9 Apr. 1815 Rowan Co., N.C. d. 11 Oct. 1895, Salt Creek Twn, Monroe Co., IN; Isaac Payne b. @1815 d. (date of death on tombstone in Covenanter Cemetery, Perry Twn., Monroe Co., IN (age about 30/35); Noah Payne b. 1817/1818 in N.C. (I have more info on him and his family) and my ancestor, Jesse Ragans Payne b. 22 Feb. 1820 in Rowan Co., N.C.
