In te Selby/Sarasota library ( a unique joint) I ran across a copy of "Gaskill Genealogy" by Elizabeth P. Koleda....read it??? Again, I'm following geography clusters.... I took note of a David Gaskill who died in 1850 Madison Co IL. ...he was the son of Silas and Sarah Jilson Gaskill . He was born in 1785 NY or NH . he married Sarah McMahon and had 13 kids, most of whom seem to have died young or remained unmarried. Son Joseph, however b. in 1806 married Mahala Riggin in 1826 and died in 1852 IL only 2 years behind his dad.... claimed 2 daughters and a son Sylvester. The 1830 Madison IL census has Joseph with a baby girl. There is an 1850 Clinton Co IL census with a Mahala Gaskill at age 9 with her sibs etc. I think her father is the Joseph, son of the Joseph/Mahala Rgn. They plop all over IL, MO, and then TX...who knew.... I have 42 pics I can send anyone interested. ( the pics are pages of the book) There is an interesting paragraph that reads: " The French were here first, ( IL) as early as 1680. By 1763, te British had won the French and Indian Wars. y 1778 Virginia had proclaimed the area " Illinois County", VA. Some of George Rogers Clark's men ade a settleent in 1779 at Bellefontaine( now Monroe CO) More Virginians arrived in 1786 and 1793. In 1787 Illlinois becae part of the Old Northwest Territory. In 1803 Fort Dearborn ( Chicago) was erected. In 1804, the first land office was opened. Illinois becae a state on 12-3-1818.
