I have that Sarah Gilliam b. 1751, wife of James b. 1748 parents are Jesse I. Gilliam b. @1730 and Jane unknown b. @1732. My great uncle told me many years ago that his great grandfather, Isaac Payne came from High Point, N.C. The Payne's arrived in Indiana about 1834 and sold property in Rowan Co., NC in a deed dated 1831 but not recorded until a later date. I also found in the Recorder's Office of Lawrence Co., IN the land patent to Isaac Payne and the reference to the date of the same property to a Cooper. This later information is off the top of my head. Isaac Payne's sons, James Payne was a miller and Jesse Payne was a carpenter. I'll back track a bit here, Elizabeth Ragan's book mentioned that there were Quakers in one of the families and until I find my Amos Ragan book I cannot remember exactly which one it was. Thanks for the replies from Mary Ellen and JW I didn't expect to hear so promptly.
