Hi, The John Regan/Riggin who was son of Joseph, Jr. and Anna could not have been the one who was a member of the Bute County Safety Committee in 1775 as he was in Bladen [now Robeson] Co NC before, during and after 1775. thanks Sam. I guess John/Bell wins by default. Sam, whom would you seek for the gen. line of the William of Surry below..Daniel or James. The Durham connection implies James. But Surry is stonger for Daniel. BTW how are you on William of John,Francis, Daniel ... I bet that's a silly question M"ellen ion. One more time,Briefly review... we are looking at links between James and Joan of Charles Co MD and Wm, John, Francis of Warren/Bute Co NC and Powell of Pendleton SC. Charles County Circuit Court, Birth, Deaths & Marriage Records, Liber Q Regon, Mary, d/o James and Joan Regon of Nanjemy, bricklayer, b. 28 Aug 1683 Regon, Margarett, d/o James and Joan Regon of Nanjemy, bricklayer, b. 12 Feb 1684 Regon, John, s/o James Regon and Joan Regon of Nanjemy, bricklayer, b. 24 Mar 1685 Regon, Matthew, s/o James Regon and Joan Regon of Nanjemy, bricklayer, b. 24 Apr 1687 Regon, William s/o James Regon and Joan Regon of Nanjemy, bricklayer, b. 31 Jan 1690 Regon, Charles, s/o James Regon and Joan Regon of Nanjemy, bricklayer, b. 20 May 1692 then James Regon 15.119 I £3.6.0 Dec 10 1696 Appraisers: Patrick Anderson, Evan Jones, and finally, James Regon 16.247 A CH £3.6.0 Apr 1 1698 Administratrix: Joan Regon, wife of John Wood, Now, we prove/intelligently speculate: Mary married Samuel Durham, was given land in Stafford Co VA by stepfather John Wood, and presumably died there as her hubby did.in 1735. Her grands show up in Warren Co NC. Margaret just gets lost to us John Rgn died in 1728 Charles Co MD. It appears he married Elizaeth XXX Wood, widow of his step brother John Wood Jr.who was the son of Joan XXX Regan Wood's second husband John Wood Sr. There is some evidence that John left 5 children... 3 of them male. A genealogical publication which needs to be vetted, says the males were John, Mathew, and William Rgn.all minors.A decade after John's death, a John and a William Rgn admin the will of a Talliaferro ( a name assoc with extended Rgn families) in Caroline Co, MD. A Mathew sells land we will discuss later ,in 1752 Charles Co MD Stafford VA is John's Mathew. Mathew, son of James and Joan is probably either the man dead in 1716 Stafford VA.., (He he could very likely then be the father of the scattering of misc. Rgn young people in Stafford that have no other family tie Jane, Jemima, Margaret.) Or he could be the man who sells out in 1752 Charles Co MD. The Mathew in 1752 Charles Co MD is either the son of James and Joan ( pretty old) or the grandson of James and Joan. I believe the latter. In Nov of 1744 Richard Chapman records the transfer for life of a land lease to his wife Mary and an Elizabeth Reagon. In Dec of 1745, Richard Chapman's will identifies Elizabeth Reagon as the DAUGHTER of Mathew Rgn. He then id's Mathew RGN as his son in law, and leaves him his " wife's share in her father's estate."( So the Chapman dau. of Richard is likely be dead) The land left is Waples Toyl. I believe I can prove this is the land in the 1752 Chales Co sale which Mathew and now wife Sarah devises to John Chapman, the brother of the now deceased Richard. I am speculating that Mathew, son of John/Elizabeth is in Caroline and is the seller of 1752 Charles Co. One more point, Elizabeth XXX Wood Rgn , widow of John Rgn,married a James Carrol. This James is the witness for the 1752 Rgn to Chapman land sale. I believe the man dead in 1716 Stafford is the son of James/Joan William appears to be the Wm Rgn in Stafford Co VA St Paul's Parrish records who is married to Elizabeth Bridget and starts recording children in 1717. Two comments:The earliest reord in the St Paul's Parish register is the 1716 death of Mathew Rgn. These folk could have had any number of children between MD and VA or in early VA that go unrecorded. We believe the William /Bridget is 27 at the 1717 birth of his son John. Comment #2 the name Bridget is a very common Irish girls' given name... not a surname. There are at least two Elizabeth Rgn's having babies in Stafford. One is called Elizabeth Bridget, the other just Elizabeth. We have somewhere ( I am not at home...still skiing) a record of a marriage for William Rgn and Elizabeth Powell. All the net seems to hold this to be the daughter of William Powell, one of the three sons of Richard Powell of note. However, Wm Powell/Amy Raleigh's daughter was not born until 1717, and she died in 1728 at age 11. They had no other Elizabeth. Wm Powell's brother Joseph died childless. Wm Powell's brother Richard died in 1709 with a pack of girls. I believe he is the father of William's wife. more later. William Rgn has a daughter Elizabeth who is born and months later dies in 1717. Wm and Eliz Bridget then have a son John in late 1717 who died in 1718. Son Powell is born in 1722.Dau Keziah born in 1727. Dau Bridget in 1733. Then, Bridget Rgn dies.on the day of this birth. I believe this death is the mother, not the daughter. There are no more children for Wm/E. Bridget. listed.More than a decade later, there is a child, Winifred, born to a Bridget... the wife of Wm would be too old. This is the daughter, with an out of wedlock child. This Bridget marries in 1746. William died a few months after Winifred's birth. He was not listed as the father, and she is not in his will.Speaking of his will... the Parish record says William died in Dec 1744. The will carries a date of 1746...must be the filing/recording date.In the will, William bequests a William Powell Rgn, Keziah Rgn, and Elizabeth Rgn. He doesn't have a daughter Elizabeth.... methinks dau. Bridget is actually Elizabeth Bridget, like her mother., just as Powell is actually Willia Powell..then he has bequested all three kids, but not the grandchild, as that would lead to bequesting all. Thus, I must conclude the loose Jane, Margaret, and Jemima Rgn women in Stafford are not daus of Wm. Charles is only two years younger than William, but we have no record of him having children before 1731. There is a 15 year difference in the postulated marriage date of these two men...did Charles have a third eye? a wart on his nose? nawwww....this dog don't hunt. Logic tells me this is a grandson of James/Joan. If so, Who's your daddy? The Charles in Stafford could be a son of Charles of James, or a son of the Mathew d. 1716.Or this is a second wife and the odd and end kids in Stafford are his by a first wife. All we can prove is that Charles and his wife Elizabeth had Elizabeth b. in 1731, Katherine in 1733 who died in 1734, John born 1736, James born 1738, and Elisha born 1740. ( Elisha Wood was a son of John Wood and, I believe was also the son of Joan XXX Rgn Wood. This Elisha died in 1733/4 married to a daughter of Richard and Grace Powell... remember, James Rgn's young children were raised by John Wood) If this is a grandson of James and not a son...we could have a random Charles running around unaccounted for...just a thought...LOL Just a passing note...does anyone have a James in VA or NC who could be the 1738 James above? What is the specualted age of that oddball orphan Eli that pops up in later cenci/uses? I promise that's the end of the Charles Co beating a dead horse I'll do this time. James, what is the date of the William Rassan-Priscilla Manzey marriage in Stafford? Until later, M'ellen.

M'ellen What date do you have when John & William Rgn admin the will of a Talliaferro man in Carline MD? You mention it was a decade aft death of John-2 (1728). Was it in 1738? When and where did a Mathew Rgn sell land? Was it 1752 Caroline MD? Is he s/o John-2? The James B. 1738 is likely the James who is in Guilford & Rockingham NC with brother John. Sister Jemima is also there with husband. Which Eli are you referring to? Eli Rgn of Wilkes & Ashe NC? Wm Rassan md Priscilla Manzey 27 Oct 1743 Stafford. could this be Wm Raggan md to Priscilla of Bute NC. Since he md 1743 he was likely born by 1723. Wm Rgns-2 son Wm Powell Rgn-3 was born 1722.
