    3. Oops! James Ragans birth date should have been shown as 2 Dec 1748 and I have his parents as Amos Ragans and Elizabeth Payne. No documentation at this time. The father's name is probably correct but the it is tentative as to his wife. Does this help? At 01:44 PM 1/12/2011, you wrote: >I'm familiar with is James Rgn, but was he born 1751 or 1748? 3. I have never seen Amos Regan. If James was b. 1748 his father Amos had to be born by 1727. What do you know of this Amos Rgn...places, activities, and dates? 2. Will use the blackberry for awhile-yuk! Amos was James's youngest son, NOT his father. There was an Edward on tax lists in Rowan in the 1760's who very well may hv been James father. A Peter and William were also in the same local- Rich Fork. I looked through Bute/Warren records prettily heavily at one time to see if the Ragans might hv come from there over to Rowan. Even tho they hv the same naming patterns, dates don't match. What is weird is that the Gilliams were there! They moved to Rowan, beside the Ragans that were already there, promptly married their daughter off to James Ragan and sold him land! Seems there would be a connection, but I can't find it. On top of that, the Gilliams and Ragans are living beside Paynes (not related to mine) that probably came from Bute. I hv no idea where the Peter Ragan went after Rowan-(1784). When I get my laptop up I'll hv more dates. Susan Pratt Oh when u talk of James and John in bute, are u talking abt Wm Powell's orphan's? 3. There is more than one John in NC...the James name is thinner... right now we are trying to connect the John who married Anne Bell, dau of Thomas to someone, anyone, volunteers? He is NOT the son of Joseph, or the son of Wm Powell Rgn. He is born about 1725 and pops up on a Granville tax list in 1755 NC with Francis tagging along behind. This Francis and John interact with the same folk that leave Charles Co MD and go to Stafford/Prince George, Surry VA and then show up in Warren/Bute NC. Durhams, Colcloughs, Footes, Powells, Woods...etc. We are pretty convinced that the Wm Powell who leaves the pack of sons in 1770 Warren/Bute is definitely the Powell, son of William born in Stafford VA in 1722. We believe the William who dies in 1744 Stafford is the son of James /Joan of Charles Co, VA. So who are the rest of these clowns in NC.? James/Joan had other kids...only one of whom seems to have stayed in MD...so where did everybody go???? Who has the missing Charlie and Mathew?? I think John/Bell is the guy in 1748 Surry Co VA listed as John Jr... okay...he is with John Sr, Joseph, Jane, and Mary....and the answer is ........ BTW, Francis is not young enough to be John's son...could be a brother... could be a cousin... or a hitchhiker...If we knew who the Warren/Bute bunch were we'd be a lot closer to naming TN, KY, and the other counties of NC.... I think... M'ellen I leave tomorrow for Sarasota. ( the snow melts in NH every Jan...back there in late Feb) in the Sarasota Library is that enormous 2 vol. unabridged Powell tome put out by heaven know how many Powell researchers. The first entry is a Riggan marriage...any way...I'll take a poke and see what their geography looks like. -----Original Message----- From: ragan-roots-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ragan-roots-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of ssmcs@winco.net Sent: Wednesday, January 12, 2011 3:01 PM To: ragan-roots@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [RAGAN-ROOTS] James Ragan b.7 Dec. 1748 Will use the blackberry for awhile-yuk!
