Looking for the ancestors of my great great grandmother Catherine Cuscaden (Kiskaden) who married a George Hill in Bracken Co., KY, in 1847. It is believed Catherine's mother was a Rachel Kiskaden of Bracken Co. and previously of Nicholas Co. Rachel was the daughter of a Jesse Riggen (mother unknown). Jesse was supposed to have been from MD where Rachel was reportedly born according to the census. Rachel married a James Caskaden (Kiskaden) in 1817 in Bourbon Co., KY. Rachel was listed in her father's will when he died in Nicholas Co., KY , in 1835 or 1836. Other children mentioned in the will were Sally, Mary "Polly" wife of Joshua Selby, Liddie, Jesse husband of Rebecca Drummonds, and Samuel husband of Unis Skeils. According to the EE Barton Papers, one of the known daughters of Rachel was reportedly one- fourth Indian. I don't know if Rachel was part Indian or if James was. Is anyone researching this particular Riggen or Kiskaden family? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Herb email: [email protected] or [email protected]
I am looking for info on the following ancester. I was hoping maybe someone out there can help me. I don't have much info, but what I do have is as follows: Sadie (Sarah?) Elizabeth RIGGINS b.abt 1856 possibly in Arkansas; d.1886-1891(?) possibly in Benton or Washington Co., Arkansas; m. John Wesley BEAL 1/18/1878. They were living in Washington Co., Arkansas in 1881. Their children were Oma (Ioma?) BEAL b.1879, Mellie Dora BEAL b.1881, Linnie(?) BEAL b.1883 ,and Hattie BEAL b.1886. John Wesley BEAL was remarried on 11/15/1891 to Della SMITH. So I assure that she died before then. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks. Carly Josephson [email protected]
Message to DOODLES - I would suggest that you try to find Gertie Reagaon on the 1910 Census, which should tell the names of her parents and siblings. She would have been nine by then. If I knew their names, I could see if they connect to my Reagan/Ragans of Sevier Co. The great granddaddy of them all was Timothy Ragan who came from Ireland. Hello, I am new to the list, this is my first posting. I am looking for information on Mary Polly Ragan that married Benjamin Van Pelt. Her father was Richard Ragan. They lived in Rockingham and Augusta Co.s in Virginia. That is about all the info I have on them except that they would have been married in the 18teens, one of their children, Joseph Van Pelt was born abt 1823, and I believe he was the second or third. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Brenda Tanner [email protected]

In a message dated 4/30/99 1:12:17 AM, [email protected] writes: << Hi, my name is Heather Ragan. I am 19 years old and live in Ca. My father is Clinton Wayne Ragan, and his father was Claiborn Ragan. Claiborn has a sister named Bertha who is married to Morgan Coker. Claiborns was married to a Reba Jewl Black. The reason I'm writing is to see if you know of any of these Ragans. I would love to know more about my familys history, but I'm not sure how to find it. I believe aunt Bertha and Claiborn were born in Arkansaw, or Oaklahoma, if that helps. If you could give me any advice as to how to find out more about my family, or if you know anything about these people, I would appreciate the info. My dad was born in 1952 and only Claiborn and Bertha and my dads sister Bonnie are still alive, that I know of. Thank you for your time. Scincerly, Heather Kelly Ragan>> Heather, First I'd like to thank you for contacting me. I'm glad to hear of your interest in genealogy at such a young age. I wish I had started at 19 years old (I was in my late forties). You mentioned that Claiborn is still alive. This is your grandfather? Why don't you ask him the name of his father and grandfather. That would be a great place for you to start. I may be able to help you some with your lineage too (maybe, maybe, maybe). I host the RAGAN-ROOTS email discussion list and would like to invite you to join us in our search for ancestors and new cousins. You'll find Instructions for joining our group below. I maintain the database for the group and looking through it I found a couple men with the name Claiborn. Such an unusual name helps our search. Now I wouldn't swear this is your line, but notice that this first guy (Claiborn Arvel) was born in Craig Co., OK. I wonder if he could be your grandfather's father?? Also please do not be concerned about the fact that the surname (and sometimes the given name) isn't always spelled the same as yours. This is called an Ahnentafel Report and goes back to Timothy, b. 1678 in Ireland(?). Also there are some questions about one or two links in this line. They aren't proven yet, just *very* good possibilities. Research is still being done here. If it looks like this is your family, if you can make a positive link, I would like to hear from you. Perhaps we can discuss some questions you may want to ask your father & grandfather about your family. I always like filling in any holes we have in the database. =================>>BEGIN AHNENTAFEL REPORT<<============== Source 1 Claiborne Arvel REAGAN. Born on 4 Apr 1903 in Craig Co., OK. Mary Ann, It looks like you've been pretty hard at work on this line. When you said "I had no idea how hard the integration of 4 genealogies was going to be.", all I can say is "You ain't just a whistlin' Dixie kiddo!". Try dealing with a database which contains over 30,000 people. I too want this thing to be as accurate as possible (for all of our future descendants). Not all of the children seem to match here. Here's a descendant report on William & Mary (according to our current version of the "Master RAGAN-ROOTS Database". ANY input/corrections or data additions, from any one researching this lineage will be appreciated. Best wishes, Michael W. Peggy - Your George Reagan line has a lot of similarities with the William and Jane Ragan line that I have been working on. I am in the process of combining several family histories from Walt Reagan (G.W. Reagan), William Bond (Silas Ragan) and Eleanor ([email protected] ) who is also a descendant of William James Ragan as I am. Below is the family group sheet for William and Jane Ragan. The rest is being proofed and edited by others before I send to the list. I anyone see errors in this, please let me know. I had no idea how hard the integration of 4 genealogies was going to be. Last week I Emailed some family history re: Reagan/Regan in Connecticut. I sent it to the 'L" and not the "D", and it didn't come up on my webtv. Do I need to do it again on the "D"? I hate to be redundant but really would like to get this info out there, because I'm really stuck with me research. Thanks for your help. Margaret

Dwayne, I came across this letter and thought you would be interested. It is dated June 18, 1974. "Dear Mrs. Hagan: Received your letter today concerning the Ragan family genealogy. I would like to see you or talk over the phone. but could not find you listed in the telephone directory, so am sending you some of the information I have. My mother was Stella Eulalia Ragan, daughter of John Jarred Ragan, who was the son of William Ragan. I have listed on a separate sheet the information a man in Vidalia, Ga. found for me. He is a registered Genealogist, and I felt he would know better what to look for and where to find it than I. He made several trips to the Archives in Atlanta and I am glad to share with you what he found, which is on attached sheet (note: I have not found this sheet, FH). Als owhat is in the family bible. Also, I have a copy of the pension papers of Mrs. Nancy Ragan of Pauldin County, who received a pension through John Ragan, who was in the war of 1812. Two children are listed: Rachel Ragan, born Aug. 3, 1854 and Lewis A. Ragan, born Jan. 16, 1860. It is stated in the papers that he volunteered from Oglethorpe County. She was his second wife, and states that his first wife died about 1848 at Villa Rica, Carroll County, Ga. I have done a lot of research at the LDS church library on Hendricks Ave, which is near where I live. They are the nicest people and invite people to use their records. If you are not familiar with them I will be glad to go with you over there and show you around. They have on microfilm most of the census records, and also records on file in their Archives in Salt Lade City, and will order a film for you for $1.00. I ran into a lady from Cordele in the Archives Building in atlanta a few years ago and she sent me lots of information on the Ragan family, which is too numerous to type. Will be glad to bring it over to you to look at, if you will let me know when it will be convenient. Sincerely, Vesta C. Sanders P.S. Mrs. Mamie P. Sanders of Edison, GA married my father's youngest brother, Walter. They were divorced years ago, and he is now dead. Eunie Ragan is my first coiusin. Her father, I think his name was Green Daniel, but we always called him "Dank". His wife was named Ada, and I think she was a Ragan before she married him. Some of the names mentioned in the letter from Aunt Mamie to Eunie correspond with the names of the children of William Ragan, (Wesley, Daniel, Jared.) She mentions Uncle Jared Ragan at Coleman as being Uncle Hamps half brother. I wonder if that could have been my grandfather, John Jarred Ragan." Excerpts from Ragan Family Bible (now in possession of my sister, Mrs E.S. Gramling, Tallahassee, Fla. 'William Ragan and Elizabeth Mathews, daughter of John Mathews, was married the 29th day of August in the year 1824, they being the parents of William G. and James W. amd John J. and Billington G. and Mary Jane, Hetta Ann Malippa, and five others that are dead. Jimson Monroe and one died not named (boy) Sarah Elizabeth Ardella and a girl ten months old not named.' 'William Green Ragan was borned the 7th day of Aug. in the year 1825. James Wesley Ragan was borned the 2nd day of May in the year 1827. Billington Granberry Ragan was borned the 27th day of July in the year 1841. Mary Jane Ragan was borned the 17th day of Aug. in the year 1843. Hetta Ann Malippa was born the 3rd day of March in the year 1845.' William Ragan came to Sumter County, Ga., after 1830, as he was in Wilkinson County that year, and bought land in Sumter from William Moss. Lot #301 in the 15th district of Lee County (this land would have been in Sumter as soon as the county was formed from Lee). this deed in Deed Book "B" on page 56. This is the only deed book saved from the fires in Lee County and is now in the Clerks Office in Sumter Colunty. William Ragan died in Sumter County before 1849, as on Jan. 12, 1849 a Committee was appointed as distributors of the estate of William Ragan and made their returns: 'On order from the Court, authorizing and requiring us to make distribution of the estate of William Ragan, we have on this day discharged this duty, and submit the following results, there beiing seven distributees to the said estate, towit: Wm. G. Ragan, adm. of the estate of Elizabeth Ragan William G. Ragan William G. Ragan as guardian of Hetty Ann Ragan, Minor James W. Ragan James W. Ragan, Guardian of Billington G. Ragan James W. Ragan, Guardian of Mary Jane Ragan William W. Forehand, guardian of John J. Ragan, minor of said dec'd.' Note: the payment to William G. Ragan as asm. estate of Elizabeth Ragan establishes that Elizabeth was also dead by 1849."
The following is one of many letters I found in my mother's files. The letter is dated 29 July 1985. "Hello: In reviewing past issues of REAGAN FAMILY JOURNAL I noticed your ancestor: John RAGAN b. c1814; d. c1854, S.C.; m. Temperance ?; d. 1880 in Grady, GA. I do not know where Grady, Georgia is and the Rand McNally Atlas did not help any. But because your reference has both South Carolina and Georgia is why I decided to chance a letter to you. I am researching Charles G. REGAN/+ variations, who was a Revolutionary War soldier in North Carolina. Born c1758/59 Granville/Bute? area of N.C., d. Jan 1840 in Lincoln Co. N.C.; m. 1788 in Lincoln Co. to Milly POPLIN. The POPLINs were in Orange/Chatham counties N.C. in the 1750's to near 1800 (this is just a general time span). Charles & Milly RAGAN's children (from estate papers): James, Habersham Co., GA. in 1840 Dolly McCOLLESTER?, whereabouts unknown, perhaps in Rowan Co., N.C. Jesse, Spartanburgh Co., S.C. in 1840 Charles G., Jr., Dekalb Co., Ala in 1840 Elisabeth GOODSON, Lincoln Co., N.C. in 1840 Didemia FORNEY, Lincoln Co., N.C. in 1840 Philip G., Lincoln Co., N.C. in 1840 I have been unable to locate the parents of Charles, the Revolutionary War soldier and also have no real information on Dolly McCOLLESTER, or his sons, James and Jesse. My husbands ancestry was Charles G. REGAN, Jr. There was a Benjamin REGAN, who purchased 210 acres on 25 April 1821 in Spartanburgh Co., S.C. - He & others sold land in Oct. 1820 - 476 a to Ralph DANGER in Spartanburgh. 7 Jan 1840 Jesse RAGAN bought 25 A in the county. 27 Oct. 1845 John REAGAN sold 170 s - deed mentions his brother Simpson RAYGAN. John's wife was Rebecca M. REAGAN. 26 Nov. 1853 James RAGAN sold 257 s -his wife, Nancy REAGANS. Do you know anything of these REGANS? Which South Carolina county/ies = also which in Georgia did your REGAN families come from? I try to get a good Family Sheet on each child of a direct ancestor and on CHARLES REGAN & MILLY POPLIN - I haven't accomplished this on JAMES, JESSE & the daughter Dolly McCollester - the surname for Dolly is difficult to read in the Rev. War Pension Application papers on Charles REGAN. I look forward to hearing from you. Sincerely, Mrs. A.E. Regan 2140 Legion drive Gretna, La 70056"
I wrote a brief history about Timothy and Elizabeth Trigg Ragan, along with names of their children. It came back, telling me to use plain text, rather than the default text in Windows 98. So I changed it and forwarded it again. But I noticed it wasn't on this morning's issue of the Digest. Did you receive it in the changed form? By the way, if anyone else has this problem, click on the "Compose a Message" icon, then the "format" tab, and go down to "plain text" BEFORE you write any message to any Roots website. Thanks, Annie in Sunny Idaho Names in the Ragan Book: Ragan, Emert, Trigg, Huskey, McCarter, Schultz, Thomas, Neidig

Bobby, How ya doing cuz? Hey tonight I wasn't sleeping very well so I started going through some files I had around here. I came across one that had a list of RAGANs in the TN census. Not sure but I may have sent it to you in the past. BUT I also came across a list of marriages too. I went through them and extracted all the William RAGANs for you. I pulled a few others too, like Nathan/Nathaniel ...etc. Anyhow here they are (marriages are at the bottom). Later Cuz, Michael PS-I'll send a copy of this to our RAGAN-ROOTER cousins too, in case any of them are looking for a William in TN. ================ Benton Co.
