Hello: I am searching for any knowledge of a Henry Burton Reagin. He was born 9-18-1840 in Powder Springs, Cobb Co, GA. Henry married a Julia Kiser and had three children: Robert Longshore Reagin, Jesse P. Reagin and Willie B. Reagin. Henry left that family and moved over to Carroll Co where he might have possible become the sheriff in that county. He married again, to a woman named Fanny Russell. They had at least one child, Henry Newton Reagin. He later married a woman named Lucy??? and they had three children: Florence R. (who later married a Connell); Joseph R. and Steve W. Reagin. Henry Burton's third marriage was to a Mary, we believe. They had three children: Charles Russell, Pearl Reagin and Minnie Reagin. Does any of this sound familiar to anyone? Thanks so much! Hello RAGAN-ROOTERS! First let me apologize for the typo the other day. I said "Forth of July" instead of "Fourth of July". None of you eagle eyes seemed to catch it though, or at least nobody critiqued me. That happens quite often (and that's okay). I caught it myself. I hate it when that happens. I'm not really an illiterate. I really can spell, I just can't tipe ;-) Anyhoo ... Tonight my wife & I are packing for a small trip. We leave in the morning heading up north. We'll be attending a family reunion in New York. It's not a RAGAN/REAGAN reunion, but quite a few of these people are RAGAN descendants, and cousins of mine! (Actually I consider all of you cousins of mine.) This group ties into my family like this: My g-grandfather was William Henry RAGAN, 1871-1927. He had a sister named Nerissa, "Rissa" was what they called her. Nerissa lived 1876-1902. She married Geo. Washington STILES. They had five children: Ethel, 1895-1986, m. James Syrene FULKERSON Ernest, b. 1897 Pearl, 1900-1963, m. Arthur Allen BAGGERLY Sr. They also had two unamed twin boys born 28 Mar 1902. Nerissa died giving birth to the twins and they died a few days later. For some reason the children went to live with their grandmother, Mariah Jackson MARTIN/RAGAN, daughter of Isaac L. MARTIN. I'm not sure why their father didn't keep them. He went on to marry another lady and have one child by her. Mariah was my 2g-grandmother & the wife of Isaiah RAGAN, 1842-1877 (son of William RAGAN & Mary LEEPER). Anyway she kept the children for the rest of her life, which was only about 3 years. The story I've heard was that one day the children didn't show up at school. Someone noticed and went over to the house to check on them. It turned out that Mariah woke up that morning (6 Nov 1905) and started to light the fire in the fireplace. As she was doing this she must have had a heart attack, died and fell face down into the fireplace. Apparently the children awoke, found her dead and were very frightened. They were huddled in the corner of the house and crying when they were found. I think that was so sad. Anyway the children were split up between family members and raised with their cousins. Apparently these families all lived near one another in and around Eddyville, IL. Eddyville is a very small town in southern Illinois (Pope County). That's where my grandfather, Hubert L. RAGAN Sr, was born. I visited there a couple times a few years ago and had a blast looking over the cemeteries and pouring through all the records at the courthouse. I also met some RAGAN third cousins (Steve, Danny & Elizabeth) that live in Harrisburg, IL. Two of them are members of our discussion group (Hi Steve & Danny!). Steve, Danny & Elizabeth's g-grandfather was John L. RAGAN. He was a brother to Nerissa & William Henry. This reunion is actually for the BAGGERLY family, but since so many of them are descendants of the sister of my g-grandfather I thought I'd make the trip and meet some cousins I previously knew nothing about. I met one of these cousins (Edna Elizabeth BAGGERLY/SCHULTZE) via snailmail a year ago and have been swapping family information with her since then. She has been researching our family for about 25 years! And has a wealth of information on our family. I'm really looking forward to meeting her. So we'll be leaving in the morning, heading through Tennessee, Virginia, part of West Virginia & Maryland and on into Pennsylvania. Whether we make it (tomorrow) to PA or not remains to be seen, but we should drive into the small town of Gillette, PA sometime Friday afternoon. The reunion will take place on Saturday, just across the state line in New York at a KOA campground. I'll be bringing a camera, some lights and lots of film. Maybe I can do a large group photograph and sell a few. Then I should be able to deduct some of the trip expenses ;-) So if you don't hear from me for a few days that's where I'll be. I will be taking a laptop along and should be able to make a connection to check my email while at the motels, but I'm not sure what kind of phone plugs Edna has so I'm not sure if I'll be able to check the mail while there. Hello Cousins! I hope everyone had a safe and happy Forth of July today. Terry & I went over to our daughter Kristins house after church. We had hot dogs, hamburgers and all the trimmings. There were lots of people there. We got to visit our grandson Logan. And our second daughter Karrin came with her husband and our granddaughter Trinity. So we got to see both grandkids today. The kids and several of the adults spent quite a bit of time swimming in the pool. Kristins boss, Dr. Azar, was there too, so we visited with her while the others were swimming. Her husband and children went to Michigan to visit family so she was on her own this weekend. My dad & his wife were there too. So all in all we had a nice visit with family today. Look it over this weekend and keep in mind what these men went through to give us the freedoms that we enjoy today and, so often, take for granted. Have a nice Fourth of July Cuz!! Michael =========== Just take a moment on the 4th of July Have you ever wondered what happened to the 56 men who signed the Declaration of Independence? Five signers were captured by the British as traitors, and tortured before they died. Twelve had their homes ransacked and burned. Two lost their sons serving in the Revolutionary Army, another had two sons captured. Nine of the 56 fought and died from wounds or hardships of the Revolutionary War. They signed and they pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor. What kind of men were they? Twenty-four were lawyers and jurists. Eleven were merchants, nine were farmers and large plantation owners; men of means, well educated. But they signed the Declaration of Independence knowing full well that the penalty would be death if they were captured. Carter Braxton of Virginia, a wealthy planter and trader, saw his ships swept from the seas by the British Navy. He sold his home and properties to pay his debts, and died in rags. Thomas McKeam was so hounded by the British that he was forced to move his family almost constantly. He served in the Congress without pay, and his family was kept in hiding. His possessions were taken from him, and poverty was his reward. Vandals or soldiers looted the properties of Dillery, Hall, Clymer, Walton, Gwinnett, Heyward, Ruttledge, and Middleton. At the battle of Yorktown, Thomas Nelson, Jr., noted that the British General Cornwallis had taken over the Nelson home for his headquarters. He quietly urged General George Washington to open fire. The home was destroyed, and Nelson died bankrupt. Francis Lewis had his home and properties destroyed. The enemy jailed his wife, and she died within a few months. John Hart was driven from his wife's bedside as she was dying. Their 13 children fled for their lives. His fields and his gristmill were laid to waste. For more than a year he lived in forests and caves, returning home to find his wife dead and his children vanished. A few weeks later he died from exhaustion and a broken heart. Norris and Livingston suffered similar fates. Such were the stories and sacrifices of the American Revolution. These were not wild eyed, rabble-rousing ruffians. They were soft-spoken men of means and education. They had security, but they valued liberty more. Standing tall, straight, and unwavering, they pledged: "For the support of this declaration, with firm reliance on the protection of the divine providence, we mutually pledge to each other, our lives, our fortunes, and our sacred honor." They gave you and me a free and independent America. The history books never told you a lot of what happened in the Revolutionary War. We didn't just fight the British. We were British subjects at that time and we fought our own government! Some of us take these liberties so much for granted...We shouldn't. So, take a couple of minutes while enjoying your 4th of July holiday and silently thank these patriots. Hello Cousins, This lineage comes from our cousin Barbara. Let's see if anyone can link into her lineage. She'd like to find some new cousins and the possible ancestors of her g-grandparents. There were supposedly buried in Washburn St. Cemetery but when I called them they couldn't find it. They had 13 kids starting with Edna born 2/24/1903 , William b 3/24/1904 , Charles b 4/5/1905 , Elizabeth b 4/11/1907, Gordon b 3/7/1909 (my grandfather), Kenneth b 5/19/1911, Lillian b 11/19/1912, John b 1/4/1914, Anna b 6/4/1916, Doris b 3/19/1918, Edith b 3/29/1919, Ira b 1/4/1921 and last but not least Margretta b 11/30/1922. Edna, Charles and Doris died as children and are supposed to be buried with John Thomas and Edith. I have found Kenneth & Lillian. Kenneth still lives in Scranton and Lillian lives in Florida. I know the one's that are deceased are Edna, William, Charles, Elizabeth, Gordon,Doris and Ira. I can't locate the others. I don't know if they are alive or not. I am being told they still live in PA. but don't know where. Rumor has it that John Thomas's dad was Charles born in 1860 who married a Anna Gallagher Regan Buckley and they had three children. John Thomas, William born 1886 and Charles who I have nothing on. They use the same names over and over again and it's becoming confusing as to which is which. If you can help I would be grateful. OK help me out. I found a Social Security site which helped me get dates as in Birth dates and Dates of death but what do I really need the SS# for? I have found all these people but can't seem to figure out how to prove that they are all linked. All I know is what has been given to me by word of mouth so I am certain that my grandfather really did have 12 brother's and sister's but we don't know all that much about my g grandfather. How do I get more information? I have heard of Libraries but I don't know where there is one near me. How can I find that out? Nathan, Was William born in Humphreys Co.? My ggg-grandfather< Nathan Ragan, and some of his children moved to Humphreys/Dickson Co., TN., from Person Co., NC. ca 1803-1805. Nathan first settle on the Little Richard Creek area but later moved east to the Yellow Creek area of Dickson Co. because of Indian problems. A probable son, Lewis, later returned to that area and reared a family. Lewis later moved to Obion Co., TN. where he died in 1850. James H. Ragon

Reagan are in conflict: Adam is listed as b. 1825 (I'd say that's correct--him being the oldest child we know of) and the marriage date for him is 4 Jul 1825, but the death date is listed as the same as the marriage date.....they had 6 children. In 1986 we moved from Texas to Florida, took the files, dogs, cats and went with the job (airline). A few years of So. Fla, we were transferred to OH (Dayton)....then a few yrs later, we were brought to New Iberia LA. Early retirement gave us the opportunity to go into a religious ministry at a house of prayer/retreat center in New Orleans. (I've got a purpose here---stick with me). While in New Iberia, we were visited by Hurricane Andrew, and he took 3 files of letters, notes, etc., from the storage area. I had put the surest of my files in the closet and saved all my proven and wills, deeds, etc, things. Fortunately, I've been blessed with a mind for details and a fairly good memory, so I begin to recognize names and such (and some have remembered me, too). Now, back in the 70-80's I remember telling several Reagan researchers that I suspected that Henry Reagan/Malinda Delozier were parents of my Reagan family. I never could find any proof of it, and I'm troubled with the 'extra parents', as I believe I'm seeing some contradictory lines. Of course, I'll get back to trying to prove what I have. I have numerous sources of proof for what I'll send: bible records, several personal interviews with family members who were personally involved with the family, military records, deeds, wills, marriage lic., etc......I'd love to be able to concretely tie it in...Any ideas??? Michael, In your post on Green Pryor Reagan you list the family of William Reagan, Sr. b. 1758 and wife, Leah Leath. The names of many of the listed children are names of Reagan/Ragan folks who were in Hardeman Co., TN. in the 1820's which I have not been able to connect of my gg-grandfather, Nathan Ragan. These are contemperies of Nathan which are mentioned in the early records of Hardeman Co., for whom relationships have not been determined: (1). Henry Ragan (2). Charles Reagan who died ca 1823. A years provisions for his wife, Jane, is one of the first entry into the County Court Minute Book. She later married Edwin Crawford, 26 Fe., 1824. They may have a daughter, Martha Jane Reagan who married Hiram G. Hinson, 26 Sept., 1846. (3). John Reagan, 1st Coroner of Hardeman County. (4). Ciely Reagan married Moses Foren, 29 April 1824, Bondsman Wm. H. Ragan. (5). Mary Reagan married Richard Hatley, 6 Jan. 1825. (6). Martha Reagan married Samuel Webster, 6 Feb. 1827. (7). James, That is *very* interesting. If someone is really interested in this lineage perhaps they could probaably use each one of those lineages for further clues/research/pointers ...etc. It would be nice to discover a link here. I know there's a *lot* of RAGAN/RAGON/REAGAN families from the Tennessee area. And quite a few of our cousins are researching these branches. In fact I'm looking for info on a: William RAGAN/REAGAN, b. ca 1806, TN, m. a Nancy _?_, b. ca 1823. TN. William was a miller living in McMinn Co., TN in 1870. He had at least two children: Mary Jane RAGAN, b. ca 1851, TN., & Labron (or Laborn) R. RAGAN, b. Sep 1861, TN. Labron was buried around here (Caperton Ferry Cem., Stevenson, Jackson Co., AL). his headstone has his name listed as L.R. RAGON, but I know quite a few of his descendants here and they spell it RAGAN. Does anyone have a link to this family?? Pleeeze??
