    2. Edie, No that's quite alright. If someone doesn't critique me once in awhile I may lose it altogether ;-) I'm used to it. As for my transcription, I just looked and I typed it as it was printed. So the mistake belongs to someone else. He-he ;-) Thanks for keeping an eye on me. 2. Just a tidbit from a letter received by another Reagan researcher in my family some years ago. The letter is dated Oct. 12, 1970. <Dear Mrs. Reagan, I received your letter of Oct. 6 and I am glad to let you know something about the Reagan family. The Reagans were early settlers in Texas coming from Tennessee. My father's ancestors came from Ireland before the Revolutionary War. My father, William R. Reagan, was born in Sevierville Co. in 1831. His brother, John H. Reagan, who was US Senator, also lived in Texas. My father had four brothers--- John, Joseph, Richard and Morris Reagan. They were all born in Tennessee and have been dead many years. . . Wishing you success and may God bless you. May I hear from you again?> The writer of this letter was a Sister in the Monastery of St. Clare, New York City, at the time of this writing. [email protected]

    3. I wrote recently trying to find the parentage of my great grandfather, Thomas Madison Reagan, who was born in Robertson County in 1868. I haven't figured out who his parents were, but I have since learned some of his siblings' names -- Edward Charles Reagan (b. 09 Jan 1880 d. 15 May 1948, who moved to the Petersburg, Texas (Hale County) area and married a schoolteacher named Ida (b. 08 Mar 1884 d. 21 Mar 1962. They are buried in the Petersburg cemetery; Dick Reagan, who moved to Trinidad, CO in the 1930s; John Reagan, a Church of Christ preacher who probably remained in Robertson County, Texas; and a sister, I am told, named Eula Bea Reagan. There could have been others, but these are the only names I know. I also know that my great grandfather was raised by a step mother. Do you know anything about the sons of Joseph Black Reagan? I know that Joseph's brother, Alexander Carmichael Black, ended up in Robertson County. He had several sons, Lafayette, Hiram...but none that matched my grandfather or his siblings. And Joseph's son, Robert Alexander Reagan, also lived in Robertson County, where he fathered 13 children with his second wife, Mary Jane McGowan (he had a son Robert S. with his first wife, Sinda Terry, who died in 1873)...I wondered if any of Alexander's brothers -- perhaps Abraham Taylor Reagan, William Charles Reagan, Thomas Jefferson Reagan, or Cyrus C. Reagan may also have lived in Robertson County. I haven't found any information on the descendants of Joseph's children, other than Robert Alexander Reagan. Do you have anything on the others in your database, or any information on my grandfather's siblings? Thanks, Lana Robinson

    1. [RAGAN-ROOTS-L] Re: S D Ragan & family update
    2. Ron, Your post is interesting. In our database, which is a collection of families contributed by other RAGAN ROOTers, I find some similar names. First whenever I do a search through our database it seems easier to look for a spouse first. You wouldn't believe how many William, Daniel, Richard, John, Robert, Bob, Sarah, Sally, Elizabeth, Ann, Jane (... etc.) RAGAN/REAGAN/RAGON (...etc.)'s there are. So I looked for Sally ROBERTS first. What I found was 3 of them! There is a Sally ROBERTS who married a Dickerson (or Dixon) REAGAN (one child->Amanda). Next there is a Sally ROBERTS who married an S. Dixon RAGAN (five children ->William Joseph, Millie, Dosh, Amanda, & Tom). Then there's a Sallie ROBERTS who married an S.D. RAGAN, b. KY (one child->William Joseph). This all looks to be the same family to me. Next I did a search for Rachel Sally TURNER. WALLACE ========== Obviously we need some more research on these families. If there was some way you could prove that this Solomon was SD or S. Dixon RAGAN/REAGAN then we might have a new link. Has anyone looked into a will from Joseph Westley or his wife Rachel Sallie TURNER/RAGAN? It may be found in Texas Co., MO where their last five children were born. Since the last child was b. in 1880 we might try locating them in the 1880 census for Texas Co., MO. Does anyone have access to that? Try the Soundex (R250). That should turn up something. Sometimes I feel like a private investigator. We're just looking for clues wherever we can find them. Perhaps we should take a look at children's names of some of this Solomon's siblings. I've found on occasion that siblings will name children after not only a parent, but after a brother or sister. If we find that someone named a child Solomon or Dixon then perhaps we can make a safe assumption about Solomon being the same person. Just a thought ... Best wishes, Michael W. 1. [RAGAN-ROOTS-L] S D Ragan & family update
    2. 8/4/1999 Ragan Roots Hi, I have been doing some more research and just thought I would share some of the updates that I have found in my family tree. Hopefully, some of this new information may bring to light a family connection that was not previously seen. Via another ragan geneology researcher (Judy Haddock Swain), I beleive that S D Ragan's full name was Solomon Dickson Ragan. If that is the case, which there is alot of circumstantial evidence supporting this theory. Then his parents would be Joseph Wesley Ragan b.1806 in NC. He married (29Aug1832) Rachel Turner in Dickson Co. TN. She was born in 1818 in TN. She was the daugher of William dillard Turner and Priscill a Ursula Thomas. An educated guess is that Joseph Wesley Ragan was the son of William Ragan b.1773 and Sitty ? b.1790 in VA. The rest of what I have is though my research. Solomon is assumed to be S D Ragan's first name. Dickson is the spelling chosed for the family traditon for his name Dixon or Dickson, either way sound the same. Solomon Dickson Ragan b.abt1848. m.abt1873 in Izard Co. Arkansas to Sallie Jane Roberts from KY. Sallie had two brothers John and Ed Roberts. They had the following children 1) Millie (Ragan) Moody 2) Dosh (Ragan) ? 3) William Joseph Ragan b.2Apr1874 in Izard Co. AR. d.27Jul1931 in Coweta, Wagoner Co. OK. buried in Shahan Cemetery. He was thought to live a time in MO. maybe Ozark or Texas Co. & then he moved on to Bixby, Ok. He married in Baxter Co. Arkansas to Margaret Elizabeth White from Gamialia, Baxter Co. Arkansas. More on thier nine children later. 4) Tom Ragan 5) Amanda Lou (Ragan/Ragon) Hughes. 'Mandy' was first married to ? Sing where they had two children. Raymond and Susan Sing. Via Henry Hughes they had a daughter Judy or Judeth Hughes. 'Amanda Lou Ragan'b.6Mar1892 in Evening Shade, AR. Sharp Co. In 24May1943 she applied for SS# 555/32/1337 while she lived in MountBella CA. She later moved back to near Tulsa OK, where she lived in a nursing home Broken Arrow? d.Feb1984. - ----------------------------------------------------- 3) Children of William Joseph Ragan and Margaret Elizabeth White: i) (f)Bertha May Ragan b.21Oct1900 OK>? ii) (m)Jimmey Ragan b.21Oct1904 d.21Oct1904 iii) (f)Olie Ragan b.6Aug1906? iv) (f)Lavada (x)Baker b.18Jan1906 v) (f)Mary Ragan b.8Feb.1910 vi) (f)Rachel Lee (x)Dunlap b.8Feb1913 d.25Mar1998>CA vii) (f)Elzora Lith (x)Henson b.24Oct1915 d.Mar74>CA viii) (m)Oscar Ralph Ragan b.28Dec1919 b.6Jun1989>CA ix) (m)Joseph Thomas Ragan b.8Mar1922 OK>CA>OK I hope this new updated info helps, Thanks, Ron Ragan. - ----------------------------------------------------------- Get free personalized email at http://www.switchboardmail.com

    2. Fred Hagan
    3. Thank all of you for the information on John H. REAGAN. I should have known most of the RAGAN/REAGAN lines had been researched. My REAGAN line were just good, honest (I guess), Georgia farm folk. I am always interested to find one that is/was in the lime light. Fred

    2. I just got some new information about my Ragan's. Does this link in with anything anyone else has? William L Ragan b. @1860- 1954 (buried in Congressional Cemetery in DC) m Minnie Fuller who died in1905 (also buried in Congressional Cemetery) they lived in SE Washington where they raised thier sons Willliam Maynard 1897-1970 Leonard Ross (who was still living in Miami, FL in1970 when Maynard died) Roland who died in 1954 and is buried in Congressional Cemetery Addison who was mute but could hear and died in 1911 (about age 6) also buried in Congressional Paul (who may be Joseph Paul and be the Joseph buried in Congressional in 1927 After Minnie died William married Catherine, his housekeeper who was the divorced wife of Charlie Cogswell - his sister Lucy was a close family friend- Cahterine is also buried in Congressional Cemetery - she died in 1939 William lived in VA - possibly Arlington before moving to SW Washington where he owned and ran a boathouse - He lived for many years on 11th St. SW and died while living on 8th ST. SW Roland or Ross always said that the Ragan's landed at Jamestown, VA - this may be family legend? William Maynard is buried at Washington National Cemetery My father always thought William was William A. but the cemetery records indicate that he was wrong and it was William L. RAGAN. Does any of this link with anything anyone else has on Ragan?

    3. Years ago, Ms. Lula Shelton did a great deal of research on the John H. Reagan line. She helped me a lot with my search, and I regret that Andrew took most of my notes. I think Michael must have most of it listed in his database. Doris Tom & Katie Crow wrote: > Fred, > > My sister La Faye Sutkin and I are gggrandaughters of John H. Reagan.
