    1. [RAGAN-ROOTS-L] Fwd: Reagin Information from Georgia Archives
    2. --part1_0.8b4efa90.252d49be_boundary Content-Type: text/plain; charset="us-ascii" Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit Hello Everyone: I just received today a copy of The Reagin Family that was in the Georgia Dept. of Archives and History in Atlanta. The information in this document was copied from notes dicated by a Lige Reagin, Lithonia, GA, 1934. In this document Lige Reagin states that 7 brothers come over from Ireland to America abt. 1700. Her grandfather was William Reagin, his wife was Phoebe. >From reading this site I know much research has been done on this line, so I was wondering if anyone knew the names of the 7 brothers who came to America together? Thanks so much! And if anyone wants a copy of this 2 page document just email me and I'll be happy to scan it in and send it to you. 1. [RAGAN-ROOTS-L] Re: Daniel E. Reagan's Maternal Grandmother
    2. Greg, As you mentioned, what we read in books or find on the Web should only be used as clues (taken with a grain of salt). The same goes with the IGI (International Genealogical Index) and our RAGAN-ROOTS database. All of this data comes as the result of research done by others, some of which may be *very* questionable. This is what we have in our database on the lineage you mentioned (As always I'm open to any additions, deletions corrections): ========= 1 Johan Philip EMERT —————————————————————————————— Birth: 1716, Leipzig, Germany Death: 28 May 1762, Berks, Pennsylvania Spouse: Maria Catharina KAMM Birth: ca 23 Dec 1713 Father: Caspar KAMM Mother: Anna Catherina FRANCK Children: Leonard Frederick (1754-1829) Daniel George W. 1. [RAGAN-ROOTS-L] Daniel E. Reagan's Maternal Grandmother
    2. Gregory McIntosh
    3. Dear Cousins, Can anyone explain the following Reagan problem? According to Donald B. Reagan, THE BOOK OF REGAN/REAGAN, the maternal grandmother of Daniel Emmett Reagan is Barbara Ann Emmert (Emert). She was the dau. of Johan Friedrich (Frederick) Emmert and Anne Barbara (Barbara Ann) Neidig. John Friedrich Emmert is the son of Johan Philip Emmert and Maria Catharina Kamm. Maria Catharina Kamm is the dau. of Caspar Kamm and Anna Catharina Franck. Barbara Ann Neidig is the dau. of Daniel Neidig and Anna Margaretha ___. However, according to the International Genealogical Index at http://www.familysearch.org Barbara Ann Emert is the dau. of Frederick Emert and Barbara Nigtish (Knight). Frederick Emert is the son of John George Emert and Eva Maria Graff. Barbara Nigtish is the dau. of Nicholas Knight and Mary Rosena. Maybe Neidig and Nigtish are the same name (maybe not). But Daniel and Anna Margaretha Neidig does not seem to be the same married couple as Nicholas Knight (Nigtish) and Mary Rosena. And was the mother of Johan Frederick Emert named Maria Catherina Kamm or Eva Maria Graff? We all, of course, realize that what we read in books or on the web are really only clues to follow until we have copies of the actual historical documentation, and this case again proves the need to use primary sources. But can someone throw some light upon this apparent discrepancy? And not guesses, but facts. Then she married A.A. Ragan in 1860 in Harrison Co., TX. They sold their land in 1872 and moved to Titus Co., TX. Need to know what her maiden name was. I think it could have been Russell, but need to confirm this.... Thanks, Dolores

    2. Ben, Thanks for the comment on software and the zipped file on AOL. At least I now know that I don't need to upload it again. A newer version (33,229 people) has been sent to Bill REAGAN and I believe he now has it available on his site. He said that it came through okay. I think there were a few bytes lost in cyberspace somewhere when I sent the first copy. I too have FTM (for the Mac), but I prefer Reunion for our main database. The company that makes Reunion sold off their PC version of the software to someone else a couple years ago. The name was changed, but I can't remember what it is called now. I *really* do like and prefer Reunion. The only reason I have FTM is for access to their library of CDs. Thanks again, Michael ================ Last night, I lay in bed looking up at the stars in the sky and thought to myself, "Where the heck is the ceiling? ================

    2. No problems today, Mike I'm just glad the 7.5MB GEDCOM file zipped down to 1.5 MB. Unfortunately upon importing into Famliy Tree Maker 4.0a, it becomes 15.5MB! This GEDCOM was in Gedcom Library 9 on AOL. I am using it because I have been since 2.0. Is there a recommendation on Genealogy software? This is not meant to open a can of worms on who prefers what, but if anybody has seen published reviews of GenWare, I'd appreciate it. I see FTM Deluxe for $59 and Generations (12-CD Edition) for $24 in the Warehouse Clubs, but I'm in it for features and it seems a lot of people use "other" software more conversant in GEDCOM format than Broederbund/Banner Blue's FTM or any of the other more widely distributed Genealogy offering. Ben Regan Possibly tired of FTM, unless other sold into loyalty. 1. RE: [RAGAN-ROOTS-L] Re: William Spillers marriage to Sarah Reagon Newberry co. S.C. 1795
    2. Pope William
    3. am trying to trace the family of my great great grandmother, Lydia M. Reagan, born about 1823 in Ohio or Indiana, died in 1850 in Indiana. She married my great great grandfather Thomas Jefferson Pope in 1840 in Hendricks County, Indiana. I believe her to be the daughter of Reul Reagan, born about 1795 in Newberry County, SC, and Mary Mills, born about 1792 in Ohio. The spelling of the name "Reagan" is not consistent in early records. Spelling variations include "Ragan" and "Ragin." Reul Reagan (Ragan) was the son of Reason Ragan (Rezin, Reagan), of South Carolina, probably Newberry County. He was probably born about 1770. Reason Ragan and Thomas Ragan (possibly brothers) of South Carolina, are included in a list in a History of Warren County, Ohio, of persons who settled in the Massie Township, Warren County, before 1820. Reason Ragan is listed as a constable in Wayne Township in 1814. Reason Reagan arrived in Warren County sometime before 1807, when there is a record of a sale of 153 acres of land on Seasors Creek by Reason Reagan and his wife Mary to Isaac Elmore. The Elmore family may be another Quaker family into which the Reagans married. Accompanying Reason Ragan were his sons, Reul, Reason, born March 30, 1792, in South Carolina, and Jesse, born about 1795 in South Carolina. Quaker Records of the Center Monthly Meeting in Clinton County, Ohio, show that Reason Reagan, and his sons, Reason, Ruel, and Jesse were recognized on February 3, 1810. The Reagans of Warren County, Ohio, who later spread to a number of counties in Indiana, came from Newberry County, South Carolina. Reportedly, they came to South Carolina from Frederick County, Virginia. I would like to find out if this Reason Ragan (Reagan) who was the father of Reul, Reason, and Jesse Ragan (Reagan) can be identified in Neweberry County, SC, records, and if he was the son of or related to John Reagin and Elizabeth Edwards. 2. bonniewm
    3. This is a follow-up to my Introduction to the RAGAN-ROOTS Mailing List query. I know very little about this Reagin family, but do have a little additional data that might help someone out there help me. Nancy Wiseman b.1802 in Newberry Co., SC. She married a Reagin (first name unknown) probably in about 1820. Their first son was born about 1821 in SC (this date is a correction). His name was West Reagin. My Wisemans left SC in about 1821 and moved to the southern part of Shelby Co., AL. On the 1830 Shelby Co, AL census, there is a John Ragins family living near the Wisemans. I do not know at this time for certain if this is Nancy Wiseman and her family. It may well be. If so, her husband was a John Ragins (sp.). Maybe that will help someone who has done alot of Reagin research help me tie into the Reagin line. The Wisemans moved to Oktebbiha Co, MS in 1833/34. On that MS county census in 1840, there is a Nancy Reagin household living near her Wiseman relatives which contained several children, but no apparent husband. Nancy would have been only in her late 30's at this time. On the 1850 census in that same MS county, there is no Nancy Reagin household. There is a West Reagin (age 29;b. in SC)household containing a wife, Elizabeth, age 28--only, no children. Still living near the Wisemans. My guess is that Nancy Reagin had probably remarried and had a new unknown name. I have no further record of this family. My best guess is that they went to Texas shortly after 1850. If anyone can shed any light on this Reagin family, I would greatly appreciate any help what so ever. Thanks. Bonnie

    2. Henry Hardegree
    3. bonnie: i'm sorry that i don't know which reagin nancy wiseman married, but i can almost certainly tell you something about his lineage. one of my wife's ancestors was elizabeth reagin who was born in newberry, sc, on June 23, 1784. she was the youngest of 11 childrn of john reagin and elizabeth edwards. if your nancy wiseman was born in 1802 and married a reagin of reasonably contemporaneous age, it is likely that he would have been the son of one of her elder brothers. joseph was born in 1763, daniel in 1765, jess in 1769, john jr. in 1773, william in 1775, and reason in 1779. i have their names and birthdates and most cases the dates of their deaths. i have many of the names of their respective wives. i only have the names of children of john jr and william, however, and none of them married a nancy wiseman. accordingly i would suspect that she married one of the children of joseph, daniel, jess or reason. reason was born in 1779 and, therefore, may be a less likely candidate than his older brothers, although it would certainly not be unheard to have been married and had a child by 1802 (nancy's dob). i wish i could be more specific, but that's all i can surmise. almost certainly nancy's husband would have been the grandson of john reagin and elizabeth edwards. john was born in frederick county, va, the son of reason (or, maybe, rezin) reagin/ragan who was born in about 1720 in anne arundel county, maryland and died in about 1777 in frederick county, va. he was married to anne beaumont (b. abt 1725 in anne arundel county and d. abt 1770 in frederick county). reason/rezin was the son of timothy ragan/reagan/reagin/regan (an maybe four or five other variant spellings adopted his descendants) and his wife, mary lary (or maybe leary). timothy was born around 1678, whether in maryland or ireland is disputed, although there is some evidence that his father immigrated from ireland that he was born in maryland. he died in anne arundel county march 14, 1743/44. mary lary was born either in ireland or maryland in about 1686 and died in anne arundel county on january 23, 1764. many of the ragan/reagan/reagin family were quakers. reason and john were quakers. there was a sizable colony of quakers in newberry. if john didn't leave the quaker faith, many of his children did. some of them, however, remained quakers and then migrated to indiana to one or more the quaker communites located there. many of timothy and mary's children had moved a generation or so earlier to indiana. those that stayed in newberry began to leave the friends society around the turn of the 18th century to the 19th century. my wife's ancestor, elizabeth married john edmundson of newberry who was also of quaker origins. after her death 1825 she was buried in the reagin family cemetery in newberry. john and some of their of children migrated to giles county, tennessee, which shares a common boundary to the south with limestone county, al. when he migrated, others of newberry (edmundsons, gilberts, etc) also migrated there and later lived in giles county and limestone county, al, but, i'm sorry to say, i can't be specific with names and relationships. there were, however, more than a few. timothy ragan and mary lary are the progenitors of a great majority of the ragan/reagan/reagin family members who subscribe to this ragan list group. they are also the ancestors of michael ragan who is the owner/maintainer of the list. he has posted instructions for how to get to and download his gigantic gedcom file. you will find more detailed lineages there. henry hardegree a "ragan rooter" by marriage to anita bains hardegree ([email protected]) -----Original Message----- From: bonniewm [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, September 18, 1999 10:37 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [RAGAN-ROOTS-L] Re: Introduction to mailing list Hi, My name is Bonnie.
