Hello Reagin researchers....I'm new to the list. Caleb C. Reagin is buried in the Old Gilbert Cemetery in Giles Co. TN along with some other relatives. http://www.rootsweb.com/~tngiles/cemetery/gilbert.htm (Be patient, this takes a while to load.) And his 1850 Census listing can be seen here. http://www.rootsweb.com/~tngiles/census/1850/d3-324.htm Caleb's mother, Cynthia Gilbert, is my gggg grandfather's sister. Also, an Elizabeth Reagin b. 1784 in Newberry County is my gggg grandmother. She was married to John S. Edmundson. I have sketchy information that says her parents were John and Margaret. Is anyone researching this line?? Thanks! Sorry is this is an old topic. : ) Jane Gilbert Bel Air, MD ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, November 05, 1999 11:04 AM Subject: [RAGAN-ROOTS-L] RE: Caleb and Sarah Reagin > Hello: > Wallis Reagin was so kind to send me some notes he had made in the past about > a Caleb and Sarah Reagin. Hello: Wallis Reagin was so kind to send me some notes he had made in the past about a Caleb and Sarah Reagin. I was wondering if anyone is tracing this line, or has knowledge of this line. Here are his notes: John Jr, (1773-1803) had a son named Caleb Cub Reagin (1801-1877). He first married Sarah Ann McClure(1805-1832). They had a daug. Elizabeth Amanda Reagin (1826-1900). Caleb then married Panthya Rebecca Abernathy. They had a son Thomas Caleb Reagin (1834-1884) Caleb had a sister- Synthia Reagin. To have the C. C. and his wife Sarah fits in pretty good, except for the birthdate of Robert (1-2-1814). I have no idea where I got the information. Thanks so much for your help! Tracy

David, Whoops. Sorry but I seem to be losing it sometimes. It's the age I guess.. Eli RAGON (abt 1764-1807) was the grandfather of Elizabeth RAGON (who married Isaac J. LAYMANCE). Her parents were Jacob B. RAGON (1788-1872) & Mary SMITH (no dates). If anyone would like I could send a complete Descendant Chart on this family. Just let me know. Sorry everyone. Michael W. Jeanne, Thanks for sending your information. I now have it entered into the database along with your email address. The other info on this family came from Opal RAGON/COTTON (as you mentioned) and James H. RAGON. Dear Alicia & Mary, I don't seem to find the family you're looking for in our database. But I did come across a REGAN family (Charles G. REGAN & Milly POPLIN) with a dau (Elizabeth REGGIN) that was married (4 Oct 1833) to an Ephraim GOODSON. And ... Charles & Milly had another dau named Mary (no further info on her though). And ... you might notice that some of their children ended up in Alabama. So if they lived in the same area as a GOODSON family perhaps you might find that other children married into this same family. Perhaps you can find some clues here. Good luck. The info was submitted to the database by our cousin - Sarah Stevens <[email protected]> on 16 Jun 1998. You may want to contact her for her sources. Here is a descendant chart for this family.. Hope it helps. Michael W. RAGAN ================ RAGAN-ROOTS List Moderator ================ Why do women wear evening gowns to nightclubs? Hello Gordon, My Reason Reagan / Rezin Ragan was also "of Newberry". He must have been born bef 1756. He married Hannah Pugh. Their daughter, Hannah Pugh Reagan (b c 1776) married David Ross Houston (bef 1796) and had as a son the governor of Alabama, George Smith Houston ,of whom quite a bit is known. However, little was described in his family history about the Pugh and Reagan except that the Pugh family was "the esteemed Pugh family of Ohio". I believe that the Reagan and Pugh families had a mass migration to Ohio, (as well as to other places) and that my Reason died young, possibly with only one, two or three children. I believe they are of the same family that included in earlier generations Timothy Ragan and Mary Lary, though I have not placed Reason with any proven parents. Most of the best possibilities are "taken" . I think my Reason's wife married a second time, probably to another Reagan. Your Sarah may be part of my specific family. I look forward to hearing about any more clues you might have. Mark in Garland, TX
Ragan Roots: RE: SARAH REAGON b. 1770 m. 1795 died abt. 1850 Ohio I am likewise new to the list. I have identified a Sarah Reagon who married a William Spillers in abt. 1795 in Newberry County, S.C.. They appear to have been Quakers and moved to Newberry Township, Miami County, Ohio or neighboring Darke County, in about 1808 to 1812. My records indicate that Sarah Reagon, or Ragin, or some other spelling died in abt. 1850 in Ohio. There son, Julius Spillers married a Susannah Coate, also a Quaker. I understand there were Ragons, Ragins, or Reagons who were Irish Quakers who migrated to colonies. Is this a possibility for the as yet, unknown parents of Sarah Reagon believed to have been born in abt. 1779? Gordon G. Bones

Hello, My name is Karen Ragan Davis and I am continuing research in the Ragan family that was started by Jonathan Ragan my nephew. My Great,Great, Great Grandfather was Lewis Ragan who was born in 1789 in Person Co., NC and died in December 1849 in Obien County, TN. I would like to find out where this group of Ragan's originated from - was it Ireland - if so, when did they come to the states and who was it that did come. I would appreciate any and all information that anyone can furnish. You can contact me at [email protected]

I think I responded to everyone who wanted a copy of that document. If you did not get it and wanted it, please email me again, as I deleted some messages before I heard from Michael that the server would not accept attachments very well. So, let me know if you did not get it. Also, I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge of a Robert L. Reagin who is showing up on the 1900 US Census in DeKalb Co, GA, Edgewater Dist. He shows his age as 37, born in 1863 with a wife, Julia, born in Aug 1867; and 3 daughters: Zada b. Jan 1886, Carlce born June 1889 and Mary born Jan 1893. If anyone is tracing this line could they please contact me? Thanks so much! Tracy
Tracy, I'd love a copy of the Ragan boys...I am always searching for my elusive William. Maryellen
Hello There, I would really like to get a copy of that. I am related to Timothy Ragan - Rezin Ragan - John Reagin - William Reagin - James Jones Reagin - James Jones Joseph Reagin - Jacob Reagin - George Washington Reagin - Carson Reagin - Douglas Gordon Reagin (ME) in that order. I know that one of those brothers was probably Timothy Ragan but he was born 1678 in either Maryland or Ireland. I don't know for sure whether 7 brothers came to America or not. Hope to hear from you soon.
