Hello cousins. I rcvd the following msg from: [email protected] According to "Randolph County, Georgia, Vol.II" published by the Randolph County Historical Society, 1999, Wike Ivey (father of Martha Ivey, who married Jarrett Ragan)was b. 1801 Southampton Co., VA, d. 29 May 1864, m. 14 Nov. 1822 in Columbia Co., GA to Sarah Adams b. 1806, d. 28 Nov 1881. Wike Ivey is an ancestor of mine, and I am trying to get information on his parents. He is reported to be the son of Adam Ivey and Mary (Molly) Adams and a descendant of Adam Ivey of Charles City (later Prince George Co.), VA but I can find no clear link. This information is from the same book and was furnished by Marilyn Middleton Ragan and Ida Marcia Middleton Ragan in 1996. I would like to get in touch with them or any other Ragan who now may know more about Wike Ivey. Thank you. Velma Beale
Hi to all the Regan Clan! In response to your e-mail, I have been tracing my Regan roots for almost a year. With a little help and ingenuity, I find that I have living Regan relatives in Agloragh, Ballyhaunis, County Mayo. Here is what I have found: Martin Regan b 1790's, d early 1860's - wife unknown 1. Peter Regan b 1820 d 1896 - wife, Mary Armstrong Regan b 1836 d ? A. Mary Regan b 1862 - no further record B. Sarah Regan b 1864 d 1937 in Connecticut C. Margaret Regan (my g grandmother) b 1865 d 1962 in Connecticut D. John Regan b 1867 - no further record E. Peter Regan b 1870 - no further record F. Catherine Regan b. 1873 - age 26 in 1901 census - no further record G. Thomas Regan b 1876 - age 24 in 1901 census Thomas Regan had a son, Peter Regan who lived in Agloragh. All of the above came from the Mayo Family History Centre. After receiving this, I was kind of stuck past the 1901 census. I have been on a million genealogy sites and posted loads of messages to no avail. Finally I got on the telephone site for Ballyhaunis and looked at all of the Regan listings. There was one Regan listed in Agloragh - K. Regan. So I wrote a letter asking for any help and included a copy of the above list of relatives. To my surprise last month I received a card and a letter from Katherine Regan. She was married to Peter Regan who died eight years ago. She has two daughters, Alta and Mary, and a brother-in-law, Thomas Regan who lives in Manchester, England. Thomas confirmed the relationship via telephone and promised to provide further information. Coincidentally, my great grandmother, Margaret Regan, had a daughter named Alta which I think is an unusual name. So that's where I am. Would welcome any other information someone else may have. Happy New Year to all and happy hunting as well. Debbie Meno

Steve, I'm sending a cc of this mail to the group in case anyone else has some input for us. Got your GedCom and thanks for the input. It came through in fine shape. I imported it into a new file so I could look it over and compare it to the main database. I found several curious things in your file though: In the list of children for David RAGAN (1810-1890) & Nancy JONES you have several duplicate listings: 3-William S. RAGANs 3-Thomas Jefferson RAGANs (and 1-Thomas J. RAGAN) 2- T.S. RAGANs Under their (David & Nancy) child David C. you show 3 wives - Gertrude POTTS & America Lilburn GREGORY (listed twice) William F. HAMILTON (Mar 1881-abt 1887) - All his children are shown as being born after his death (I'll bet that's a tough one to pull off ;-). There were other things which I wonder about, but one I found *very interesting* is where you show the father of David RAGAN (1810-1890) as Spencer. I guess I'm curious about this link, first because in our main database I didn't have a father for David, and second I've found a Robert RAGAN family in KY back in the late 1790's-1800's. And they had a child named Spencer. My info shows this Spencer as having died in 1796 though. So I guess it couldn't be the same one. The Robert RAGAN (b. 1758, PA, d. 1799, KY) family came from VA into KY in the late 1790's and somehow there was an epdemic which killed off most of the family. The only survivors were four sons (Robert Jr., Abner, Reuben S., & Thompson). As I mentioned they also had a son named Spencer. And one of the surviving sons (Robert Jr.) passed the Spencer name onto one of his sons. Actually he named him Henry Spencer. So I found the Spencer in your file interesting. And I wonder if anyone has anything more on him. Like birthdate, spouse ...etc. Back in the Spring of 1998 I made a trip to the Allen Co., Library in Ft. Wayne, IN. Some say this library is one of the *best* genealogical libraries, second only to the one in Salt Lake City, UT. It was there I discovered an old book named Robert Ragan Sr. Genealogy. Actually it was a copy (of a copy, of a copy ...etc.) of the book. It was *very* difficult to read. So, of course, I just had to have a copy of it. I brought it home and over the Summer I did a transcription of the book so others could do their research. If you'd like I could send you a copy of it via email. (I guarantee it'll be easier to read :) Getting back to your GedCom ... what I'll do is to clean up your file a little (eliminate some of the duplicates) and import it into our database intact. Oh, one more thing ... other rooters that given input to the database and have shown interest in your line are: [email protected] [email protected] [email protected] Again I thank you for sending your family information so we can include it in our main database. We appreciate your input. Later cuz Michael W. RAGAN =============== RAGAN-ROOTS List Moderator =============== My wife and I always compromise. I have the database set to captialize all surnames when they're added (so it's my fault). So they *are* in the original capitalization form. I just find it easier to spot the surnames in a file if they're done like that. Sorry if it causes any problems for anyone. C'est la vie. I'd like to have any and all RAGAN/RAGANS/REGAN/REAGAN (...etc.) descendants for our database. I'm sure I'll have to draw the line somewhere. Right now we have over 34k people in the database. It just keeps growing, but the software can handle it so just keep 'em coming! ;-) >Thank you for all your hard work on the RAGAN, etc. roots-web list. I want this info to be right for future researchers. There's no need feel bad about small or petty changes. And you're certainly welcome for the work I've done on this database. It's a labor of love to me. I'm really excited to find so many people who're interested in our history. As of yesterday we had a little over the 300 mark I announced last week. So keep the information coming cousins! We all want to share and hear about your families. Over the past several years we've been able to link new cousins through our efforts here. >I know "my tree" is a work in progress and subject to change as more records > >come to light but I never know who wants the corrections. So far I think my brother Bradley is the only one of my siblings subscribed to our group (plus dad - Hi dad! ;-). And that's probably because Brad is the only one of us who took the time to look into our family history (back about the late 1960's when there was no such thing as email/Internet). Brad had to do this using snailmail. I just didn't have the patience back then. Actually I guess it could be said that Brad got me started. I was always interested in what he had discovered, but didn't want to take the time to find out for myself. When I got *really* fired up on genealogy several years ago he shared/gave all his info with me. (Thanks Brad!) At this point in time I *really* wish I had taken the time to interview my grandparents. Of coourse, don't we all wish that. Hindsight I guess. Jean thanks for sending your update. (It's now been checked & entered into the master database.) Someone needs to keep an eye on me ;-) And I'd like to wish you and yours the best too. Happy Holidays to you, and all our faithful and caring RAGAN-ROOTer cousins. Enjoy your families this weekend cousins. That's an order ;-) Michael W. Hello cousins, Our cousin Randy REGAN has updated his Web pages and would like you all to take a look. He has our latest GedCom there if you'd like to download it. Or you can just search through the names on his site if you'd like. Warning - it's a *big* file (33k+ people) so the index takes awhile to load. Plus he has links to other RAGAN/REGAN/REAGAN ...etc. pages too. By all means go look it over. It's nice. You'll find it at: http://regan.org/ragan-resource/ Thanks Randy for making this available to everyone. And Merry Christmas everyone! Michael W. Just a post to see if anyone knows Mary Ragan Goodson of Randolph Co., Alabama? She was married to Mr. John Thomas Goodson in the late 1800s. We think her mother's name was Mollie and that the family was Cherokee. Thanks, alot.

Reid, is the following. Bethany Baptist Church (1788-1866), Oglethorpe County, GA. - 1922 - Bethany Baptist Church by W. H. Faust. "Around 1788 a long list of Baptist churches were organized in Northeast Georgia, among them being Sardis, Bethesda, County Line, Salem, Millstone, Doves Creek, Big Creek, Bethlehem on Browns, Clarks Station, Bethany and others, that are still in existence. Bethany was constituted October 1788, by Rev. Silas Mercer, the father of Jesse Mercer, assisted by help from Huttons Fork, now Sardis, Charles Fin of Doves Creek, John Gilbert of Phillips Mill and Robert Jackson of Doves Creek. The church was originally in Wilkes County. Negroes held membership along with the whites, and a gallery is still in the present church building, placed there for the accommodations of the colored members. Thus whites and blacks, masters and servants, met together as brothers and sisters in God's house and worship together in Christian fellowship." The two pastors during the period that John Herring would have been there were Isaiah Hales, 1788-1804, and Noah Lacey, 1804-1825. Noah Lacey was ordained to preach while there, evidently under the pastorship of Isaiah Hales. Also, listed as clerks during this period was Noah Lacey and Mark Ragan. ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Friday, December 17, 1999 5:46 PM Subject: [RAGAN-ROOTS-L] Mark, Hamilton and Jonathan RAGAN - in Georgia > Hello Cousins! > > The following msg (posted below) comes from Gila RAGAN/HOOVER. A GRANDFATHER'S LETTER TO HIS GRANDCHILD We tried so hard to make things better for our kids that I think we made them worse. For my grandchildren, I'd like better. I'd really like for them to know about hand-me-down clothes and homemade ice cream and leftover meatloaf sandwiches. I really would. My cherished grandchild, I hope you learn humility by being humiliated, and that you learn honesty by being cheated. I hope you learn to make your bed and mow the lawn and wash the car. And I really hope nobody gives you a brand new car when you are sixteen. I hope you have a job by then. It will be good if at least one time you can see a baby calf born and your old dog put to sleep. I hope you get a black eye fighting for something you believe in. I hope you have to share a bedroom with your younger sibling. And it's all right if you have to draw a line down the middle of the room, but when he wants to crawl under the covers with you because he's scared, I hope you let him. When you want to see a Disney movie and your little brother wants to tag along, I hope you'll let him. I hope you have to walk uphill to school with your friends and that you live in a town where it you can do it safely. On rainy days when you have to catch a ride I hope your driver doesn't have to drop you two blocks away so you won't be seen riding with someone as uncool as your Mom. If you want a slingshot, I hope your dad teaches you how to make one instead of buying one. I hope you learn to dig in the dirt and read books. When you learn to use those newfangled computers, I hope you also learn to add and subtract in your head. I hope you get razzed by your friends when you have your first crush on a girl and when you talk back to your mother that you learn what Ivory soap tastes like. May you skin your knee climbing a mountain, burn your hand on a stove and stick your tongue on a frozen flagpole. I hope you get sick when someone blows cigar smoke in your face. I don't care if you try beer once, but hope you don't like it. And if a friend offers you a joint, I hope you realize he is not your friend. I sure hope you make time to sit on a porch with your grandpa and go fishing your uncle. May you feel sorrow at a funeral and the joy of holidays. I hope your mother punishes you when you throw a baseball through a neighbor's window and that she hugs you and kisses you at Christmas time when you give her a plaster of Paris mold of your hand. These things I wish for you - tough times and disappointment, hard work and happiness. Sealed with a kiss.

George Hamilton in his will dated 1799 left his estate in part to Hamilton Ragan upon his wife Winny's death. Could Winny be a Ragan? and is Hamilton Ragan her nephew? I have eight Ragan marriage's in Oglethorpe Co. which are not placed yet. Do you have any suggestion? Thank you in advance for all your help.
