I have hit a brick wall with my GGG grandmother Fredonia Elizabeth RIGGAN and her husband Sam TRIPP/TRIPPE (my GGG grandfather). I know nothing of Sam Tripp's ancestors or of Sam TRIPP/TRIPPE. Fredonia has a twelve year gap 1858-1870 that I need to find out where she was and what happened to her so I can unearth some information about Sam and also to find out more about Fredonia. Fredonia Elizabeth Riggan was born in 1845 to Samuel H. RIGGAN and Martha TARVER in Wilson County, TN. In 1858 after both of her parents died, Fredonia was made a ward of Marion KITTRELL of Wilson County, TN. Fredonia does not appear on the 1860 census in TN but reappears as a widown in 1870 in Wilson County, TN under the name of F.E. TRIPPE with two children (Henrietta born in 1862 and death date is unknown and Tilmon/Tilman Valrus Trippe born in 1866 and died in 1947 (my GG grandfather). Fredonia died in 1886 where her toombstone indicates she was the wife of S. Tripp and she is buried in the Leeville cemetary in Wilson County, TX. The census records indicate different birth places for Fredonia's two children over the years. Some census records say TN, some say TX, some say ARK. Family rumor was that these children were born in ARK and my GG grandfather's death certificate says he was born in ARK and his father's name was Sam Tripp. However, Mt. Olivet Baptist Church Records in Wilson County, TN state these children were born in Texas. I can't find Fredonia, Sam Tripp, or any of the children in Texas, Arkansas or Tennessee records from 1858-1870. The Tripp name is sometimes spelled Trippe. Any leads or information would be most appreciated. Thanks Cynthia Cline.
Hi cousins, I just thought I would update what I know about a lost branch of my family tree. In the past I said that Tom Ragan had served in the Civil War. New evidence suggests that he wasn't born until after the Civil War. Although I do not have an exact date for his birth, I believe that he would have been born somewhere between 1890 to the early 1900's. I have mixed pictures of Tom Ragan thought to be a.k.a. Thomas Abraham Ragan. In one picture he is standing with two women wearing long dresses and hats of the time 1900's-20's period. I can send a digitized copy to any one in interest. The women are labeled Wanda and Lue or Lou. It could be that Wanda is whom would be come his wife. No last name is given for the ladies. One the back is it addressed to S.J. Ragan c/o Joe Ragan. S.J. Ragan was my great grandmother "Sallie Jane (Roberts) Ragan" and Joe would have been my grandfather "William Joe Ragan". It appears at the time they lived in Inola, Oklahoma. I think this would have been about the 1920 to 1930 time frame because Sallie died in 1931. Other records indicate that Tom Ragan may have at some point moved to New Mexico. It is not known at this time where he died or where his decendants may have lived. Another picture I have shows "Mary Jane (Ragan)" with a son called little Tom. Mary Jane would be Thomas Abraham's daughter. This family would be something as: Solomon Dixon Ragan m. Sallie Jane (Roberts) Ragan children: 1 M) William Joseph Ragan. 2 F) Belle Lutisha Ragan. 3 F) Mildred "Millie" Magdaline Ragan. 4 F) Doshey "Dosh" Ragan. 5 M) Thomas Abraham Ragan. <**** m. Wanda? ______? |_> Mary Jane (Ragan) ______? |_> Little Tom ______? 6 F) Mandy Lou Ragan. Any input on this line is greatly appreciated! Well! All you really healthy families out there, congratulations! This is the other end of the spectrum: Both g-grandparents, Cornelius Ragan & Catherine Noonan, died at age 70. Catherine proceeded her husband in death but outlived 4 of their 11 children. Cornelius lived another 7 years during which time another child died. Finally tally: 3 died in infancy. Patrick died at age 26 the day before he was to marry. Michael at age 45. My grandfather, Leo, died at at age 59, three years before my birth. Cornelius, Jr., at age 60. Eldest son, Thomas Joseph, at age 73. Eldest daughter, Mary, died at age 76. Two others, Francis and Margaret are unknown. My father is still alive and healthy at 77. His sister, Mary, is 73. So we are making progress. A little historical note . . . Mary was born in and is still living in the same house in which Cornelius lived. But, then again, not much changes in Springfield, Illinois. Many more, and healthy, years to all! -- Bill Reagan Aurora, Colorado, USA [email protected] Researching: Alexander, Duda, Reagan, Weiler: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/billreagan/ Weiler Surname research: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/billreagan/weiler.htm
Alicia, Hi again! I lost myself in your discription of your Ragan ancestors lives. My family also lived on farms, grew their own food, be it cattle or vegetables. My mothers family owned a dairy. Until my mother couldn't get it any longer, she ate the cream off the top of 'raw milk', and grew up making cheese, butter, etc. I am 58 and have been totally addicted to butter my entire life. Once, when my grandmother and mother were churning butter (to sell) on a very hot Arkansas day, and stopped for a break on the porch swing...I stole a one pound, glass mold of freshly made butter from the 'ice box'. I hid behind the chichen coop and ate the WHOLE thing. My Mom was going to kill me, but Grandma said "Leave her be...a tummy ache is all the punishment she needs." I never did get sick!! Ha! My grandparents lived into their late 80's, my mother to 85, and my great grandmother to 91......and she was straight as a stick, did her own housework, shopping, etc., until she died of Cancer! I have SO enjoyed everyones stories!! Bren
Would like to add my aunt to some of the older living relatives. Artha Pearl Reagan was b. 13 Jun 1900 and d. 06 Jul 1991, like most of the others lived on the farm and ate food that was grown there. Plus would like to say she was one of the nicest people I have ever known, in her lifetime have yet to hear anyone say that she ever said anything bad about another person. For the genealogy part she was daughter of John Ailey Reagan and Martha Rosetta Robbins, was married to Asby Stanley Robbins son of John Riley Robbins and Vinnah Catherine Smith. This family lived Fentress Co. TN. Have a great day! Pat
