I would like to ask Karen Ragan Davis where her grandfather John Wesley Ragan was from. I have found a listing of a family in Cherokee Co, AL, which has a will probate for John W. Ragan. Could this be same person? Pat Treadwell

I am looking for any information on the children of James C. and Isabella Cross Ragan. My grandfather, John Wesley Ragan, was one of the 5 children born to the above. I have not been able to find out much info about the following siblings. Richard Allen Ragan - The info that I have states that he lived in Texas. I do not have any of his family info. Patrick Ragan - He was married to Lilly Jackson and they had 2 daughters, Pauline and Helen. I know that "Uncle Pat" died in DeWitt, AR , but this is all that I have. Branford Ragan - No information seems to exist on this sibling. Sarah M. Ragan - This was a sister that we all called Aunt "Biddie". She lived and died in DeWitt. Sandra, I am sure that there were some RAGAN/REAGAN families that moved from western PA to Cincinnatti, OH. There was a Brice RAGAN/REAGAN found there who descended from the Revolutionary War soldier Philip REAGAN. In fact there is a Reagantown in western PA. This is where Philip is buried. There were some RAGAN families (Quakers) that came from NC to OH at one point too. Another thing I feel I should comment on is your mention of my confirming your genealogy. It just ain't so kiddo. I don't claim our database to be any sort of 'proof'. It's just a pointer for all our cousins to use when searching for their ancestors. Of all the lineages submitted to me over the past several years, there's been very few that have come with any actual 'proofs'. Most of this research has been done by others. I've done very little of it. I have tracked my actual family back to my 3g-grandparents, William RAGAN & Mary LEEPER, but that's it. And I have the 'proofs' on them. And I have done some research on a few other lineages. I feel that I'm just a sort of clearinghouse for RAGAN (and all variations) families. As for my link between my William RAGAN and his father Reason RAGAN, I have no proof of that. I feel that it's a *very* strong possibility, since they're from the same part of the country, Reason was born in Frederick Co., VA and William was there in the 1820 census. And William named one of his daugters Rachel, Reason's wife's name (Rachel CONNELL). I've spoken to Donald REAGAN (author of "The Book of RAGAN/REAGAN") about this link, he's looked into it and claims that the link looks like a certain probability, but ther's just no proof. Drat! I do have a note in our database about the lack of evidence for this link though. The links between Reason (1751-1800), Rezin (1720-1777) and Timothy (1678-1743) are proven by Donald. So what I'm trying to say is PLEASE do NOT consider this database as any sort of proof. Just use it as a pointer to where you should look next for your ancestors. And if you find a mistake in the database send me a note about your discovery. I certainly want this information be be correct. Later Cuz! Michael W. Edie, This subject has been discussed several times in the past. but I don't mind bringing it up again. You could search through our archives at: http://searches.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/listsearch.pl Once you get there then type in: ragan-roots It'll take you to a search engine to hunt any subject that has been discussed here. Sorry, but I'm not sure about the original RAGAN/REAGAN/REGAN brothers. I really do wish I knew more. In one book I have (A Quaker Headmaster, The Life and Times of Chester L. REAGAN), it mentions two brothers and claims that "One of the original REAGAN brothers that immigrated from Northern Ireland was named Thomas" (direct quote). Other than that small piece of information I have no idea. I have heard that there was a Cornelius RAGAN/REAGAN/RAGON who witnessed a will in Maryland in the 1600's. But I haven't seen it. (Anyone care to hunt that one down?) One thing I noticed is that our old Timothy RAGAN (who m. Mary LARY in 1703 in Maryland) did name one of his children Cornelius. Hmmm... Nothing was ever said as to why they came here or why they split. As for the web page to find our database, I'm not sure which page you are refering to. I personally don't have any Web pages up and running (yet), but our cousin Bill REAGAN has one at: http://ourworld.compuserve.com/homepages/billreagan/ The file can be downloaded there. If you know anyone who has access to AOL it can be found in the Genealogy Forum (Keyword -> roots). It would probably download faster from there than via the Internet. If you have already downloaded it and are having problems importing it into your genealogy software I may not be able to help. That's because all computers and software are different. I use a Mac with Reunion software. When importing large files I find it needs to have the application's alloted memory increased quite a bit. I think the normal allotment for Reunion is about 2 megabytes and I will increase it to about 20 megabytes or so. I am still searching for information on family of Charles Perry Ragan who lived in Cherokee CO, AL, but am not sure where he was born. He was b about 1861 and moved to TX. about 1880. He married Mary Suzanne ELizabeth Witt in McLennon Co, TX in 1883. Her family were also from Cherokee CO, AL. I have reason to think his father was John Wiley or John Riley Ragan. Hello everyone! Today I received a *very* exciting piece of snailmail. My applocation to the "Sons of the American Revolution" has been accepted! Whoopie!! Hooray!! Finally. Samuel LEEPER (ca 1747 - Aug 1805) Samuel LEEPER was my 5g-grandfather, he was born in York Co., PA and died in Washington Co., PA. He served as a Lieutenant for York County during the Ravolution. Samuel was married to Margaret "Nancy" CLARK. She was the daughter of Captain James CLARK (another Rev. War soldier) and Elizabeth TRIMBLE(?). There ... I just had to tell someone. ;-) If you can establish a blood relationship to any of the above mentioned people you too can become a member of either the DAR or SAR. First you'll need to get an application from the group you wish to join. (I got mine online.) DAR --> http://www.dar.org/ SAR --> http://www.sar.org/ You'll need 'Proofs', (birth certificates, census records ...etc.) to establish your relationship to your mother or father, then to their parent, and their parent ...etc. Once you get back to one of the established people in my line you can refer to my lineage by my SAR #153118. Your state may require a 'Record Copy' of my application which can be obtained from the national SAR headquarters in Louisville, Kentucky for about 5 or 10 dollars. You'll also need to find a local chapter of the DAR or SAR to join. Someone there should be able to help you with your application and requirements for membership.
