She was bn in Maryland.Understand some Ragans came from there to Hickman Co. My records show my William Bn in N.C. but is from and died in Hickman Co. His son Charlie Seth was my Gr granddad. Joseph Wesley Ragan (b.1842-Tennessee;d.Abt 1900-Natchitoches Parish,Louisiana) sp: Margaret E Williams (m.7 Feb 1884) Ok, now this is interesting. My own Joseph Wesley Ragan was born in about 1806 in NC... he married Rachel T. Turner daughter of William Dillard Turner and Priscilla Ursula Thomas...she was the sister to Catherine Gaines Turner, b. 1813, Dickson County, TN. Joseph and his wife later moved to Texas County, MO, where it appears that Rachel died, he later remarried and moved to Izard County, AR, he is buried in Arkansas. This makes me wonder if all of these Ragan's in Dickson County, TN are related. Can anyone find any proof that they are? Judy Swan and I haven't been able to and it is frustrating. Again, Where is the proof that John b. 1699/1704 of surry VA had a son John Jr? The only sons I have for John is William, Benjamin, & Jesse. Also this John of Surry d. 1767 in Surry VA, while the John Sr was in Orange/Caswell area with son John Jr. John Jr of Orange/Caswell could not be s/o John of Surry who did in Surry. -----Original Message----- From: Dan Coker Sent: Sunday, September 16, 2007 5:45 PM To: ragan-roots@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [RAGAN-ROOTS] Ragan, McIntosh OK I am finally caught up with my e-mail. The obscure designation SCC appears at the end of this record and then the names Thomas Harton and Jno Riggin. I know this is the land area we later find holding Joseph, John and a cast of other familiar characters. The Hartons and the Bells implies that this is the Daniel or Francis group...which does NOT exclude Wm Powell or James and Joan or Timothy, but the interconnection of the John R, Harton, Bell is strong, and the Joseph R is right with them. I'm not sure I can defend this statement, but I feel that as they entered NC in the 1750's, the R's connection between the Joseph R. and the Francis R/DanielR and the John R/Bell is more recent than any connection between Wm Powells, Timothy, James/Joan and the John/Bell, Fran/Daniel, Joseph R...These connections are further back in new and old VA and MD. By Old VA, I mean Isle of Wight and Surry, not Stafford or York, which I call New VA because they are after the dispersal. James, I am poking at Lindsey/Linsey in MD. There is a 1735 will of a Thomas Maddox in Somerset Co MD He has a son Bell Maddox and is willing him and others a tract called "Linsey's Green". Witnesses for the will was John Riggen Sr, John Outten and Samuel Adams. The John is the John we call John of Marumsco. He is the son of Teague and Mary London. He married Mary Ward, dau of Cornelius. Nothing earth shaking, just intriguing. BTW, I found my notes for the sons of Daniel in VA. I have no idea where I got these, so they should be checked. I have that Jeremiah Regan on 5 Sep 1699, sold his and in Surry Co VA. He is named as a son of Daniel in the Surry Co Deed. I have that John Regan in 1697 New Kent Co VA appointed his brother Francis to be his Atty and sell his land in Surry Co. and then I have that Elizabeth Regan who was 7 on 24ay 1688 was apprenticed to William Foreman on 3 Jul 1688. The latter a Surry Co Court also.MCH -----Original Message----- From: ragan-roots-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ragan-roots-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of james garrett Sent: Sunday, September 16, 2007 1:26 AM To: ragan-roots@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [RAGAN-ROOTS] Charles R./Lindsey Maryellen, Joseph Lindsey is the fathr-in-law to my Peter Reagan md to Rebecca Lindsey. Mqryellen, I just talked to Virginia and ask her to refresh me on the Paschal family. She said that every time we found a R.....family then we would also find a Paschal, Bell or Davis family close by or mentioned in a Will , census and Land record with or next to R....person. So she just wanted up to keep a eye open and see if we could make a connection................ They are both the same Darby...the 1668 Anne Toft headright Darby ( who's future wife Elzabeth Cutler was also a headright of Ms Toft) , is the same guy who entered MD with wife Elizabeth and 4 chidren in 1681. All Annamessex Riggins desc. From this Darby. The Pokomoke ones and the Nanticoke are from Teague. Darby later marries for a second time to a Mary Clegg. I would imagine that the first of them came probably from what today is Northern Ireland as most if not all of the first Ragan's (any spelling will do as you say) are not Roman Catholic. It was this area of Ireland that the English broke the back of the Roman Catholic church in Ireland. However, this being said, the English also "imported" a number of Scots and English to Northern Ireland to do this. Albeit you normally don't see any spelling of the surname Ragan in Scotland today. I don't know if it was from there at one time and they forced or brought over to Ireland a whole group or family with that surname...but I kind of doubt it. More than likely I surmise that the Ragan name is (or was) just Irish and probably from Northern Ireland at one time. I don't know if any of that surname migrated down to Ireland of today. Just my thoughts on the question. Cheryl Joseph Wesley Ragan NC> Dickson Co., TN> Texas County, MO> Izard County, AR. ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com
We can add Joseph Wesley to this mess of Dickson County, TN Ragan's. That is my line and we think these men may be connected to each other, but as of yet we have found no solid proof. We are still looking, however. Cheryl Missouri ************************************** See what's new at http://www.aol.com

Maryellen, Daniel Riggins of 1 Dec 1727 Bertie is possibly Daniel Sr living near his brother Joseph, instead of Daniel Jr. Daniel Sr died sometime after 27 Nov 1727 & bef 1728 (administrative account date). He could have still been alive in 1 Dec 1727. If Daniel Jr was b. 1710/12 he would have only been 15/17 yrs of age, not of legal age to own land. No additional info William died 21 Nov 1744 Stafford Co., VA. Where did you get the info "Charles b. 1734 md to Elizabeth Henry?" as s/o Charles? Is this supposedly the Charles of 1775 Dunmore VA? He has 5 sons: William b. 1758 Charles b. 1760 Henry b. 1762 John b. bet 1766-1772 Ahimaz b. 1774 Charles is in Shenandoah (formed from Dunmore) in 1779 with deed of 112 acres. Charles & his son Charles Jr are listed in 1785 Shanandoah Tax List 1787 Shanandoah VA Charles Ragan & Wm Ragan Also the proof of marriage of John to both Rebecca & Mary? When & where did he marry these two? Interestingly John of Bute/Warren NC was married to a Mary. He died 1790. Could this be him? He had sons: Mathew, James, & John. Did any of these o to SC? Johns on James had sons: John, James, Charles, Peter, William. As for James b. 1738 s/o Charles is there proof/evidence he md X3? What places did he settle? I do have in my notes a James b. abt 1740 who md 1st Elizabeth Hayes 2nd Nancy Cook, & 3rd Rebecca. However, I did not have the father of James identified.
