    3. Here's one for you all to take a look at. Since I am looking mainly in Mo and ILL. I found this in the History of Gasconade Co., MO. Gasconade Co., Mo is very close to Audrain and Cole., MO where both James Joseph and Powell Riggins were from. They first appear in these area in 1816-1819. Now one for you Maryellen! From the History of Gasconade County. Page 620 "The first permanent settlers, it is believed, came into the county in 1812, and among them were Henry Reed, on the Bourbeuse River, James Roark, three miles southeast of Hermann, and Isaac Perkins, William West, N. Riggins, and a few others who made their living principally by hunting and trading with the Indians." Now remember that John Riggin from Madison Co., ILL moved into Gasconade Co., Mo ca. 1840 and died there ca. 1844. Now my question is who is this N. Riggins? Does anyone have him in a data base in this area around 1812?

    3. James, Good morning...or good evening whichever...Re Joseph of Francis, got it I have him at an est. 1710...what do you know of this Joseph, anything?....he needs a ref tag name...obviously Joseph of Francis won't cut it...that's an excellent thought having him as a possible father of John. I have this guy in my database ( an even older one which I am now opening in MG...harder to use, but more reliable)But don't know how to prove he exists. No Dad's will. Two things I'd like to pick your mind about: #1 In the Will of Ann Riggin, widow of Daniel Jr, in I-of-W VA, she leaves her 2 young children to her sister Martha Noyal. ( can you supply this?...old file I'm using doesn't have it). There is no way on earth the state of VA in the 17th century would have allowed an unmarried woman to be guardian to 2 children, even her own, esp if one was male. Martha Noyal had to be married. When Daniel III made out his 1744 will, he names his cousin Rachel Noyal and his uncle William Noyal. I believe this to be the husband of Martha .It makes sense to me that the folks he was handed to would be the folks he remembered in his will. For various reasons that I am rusty on,I believe Martha and Anne were nee Norsworthy. Keep an eye out for the William Noyal Norsworthy that ducks in and out of Bute/Warren deeds. I realize the names are reversed, but this guy could be some sort of cousin and it does show propinquity of the two families. Any thoughts? #2.How do you handle the awkward wording of Jane Gross's inheritance from her father Richard ? ( this data hasn't that either...grrr)Where she is called a widow at a time we need her married to Francis. Was she someone's widow before she married Francis? One more question, what do you know about the Durhams? And the Shearins?...Really know. I can't tell if they associate with the Francis Riggans after moving to Bute, after moving to Stafford VA, or before both. Did William Durham, grandson of James and Joan Ragan, son of William and Margaret Colclough, marry a Shearin? If so, where? The Francis Riggan/Mary Pegram crowd marries a lot of Shearins...in fact, 2 Littleton Riggans' marry 2 Rebecca Shearins...yeesh! Billie Pegram Riggans' Halifax Co NC pension application for RV War service was witnessed ( among others) by James Durham and Zachariah Shearin. I am looking for threads among the 3 families as far back as I can get. WILL: 4 3 24 APR 1727 Bertie County, NC In the name of God Amen I Joseph Reggons of Bartie precinct and Locity? parish being sick and weake of body but of sound and perfect mind and memory and calling to mind the frailty of man do make and ordain this my last will and testament in manner and form following. Lastly my will and desire is that my loving wife Elizabeth Reggons and my son Joseph Reggons bee exectors of this my last will and testament and that they may defray all debts and collect all dues to me belonging and farther my desire is that my exectors may lawfully sell or dispose of any of my personal estat to before deceasing to defray my funeral charges and further my desire is that my brother Danile Reggons be trustee of this my last will and testament I conclude this my last will thus revoking all former wills and testaments made by me in testimony. I have sett my hand and seal this 24th day of April anno d 1727. Joseph Reggons] Recorded in Bertie precinct August, 1727 Joseph's will was probated in Bertie County, NC, Aug., 1727. Before I forget, Joseph Sr married an Elizabeth Gadd, dau of Thomas ( in Thomas' will--Nola) she was the granddaughter of the Thomas Gadd who was the military commander for James City in 1622 in the big slaughter by the Indians under Oppacancanough. I shall look for this old will. It looks like my FTM doesn't like to open the older version files. We know that Francis b. 1685 (3rd Gen) had a son Joseph (4th Gen). But nothing else is known about him. This could the the Joseph md to Mary in Bute/Warren NC area near both John & Francis. I question John b. 1666 (2nd Gen) as being the father of John & Francis (5th Gen). If so John b. 1666 would have been abt age 64 as well as his wife when John & Francis was born in 1730s. -----Original Message----- From: Maryellen Horrigan Sent: Friday, September 21, 2007 12:47 PM To: ragan-roots@rootsweb.com Subject: [RAGAN-ROOTS] oddities to share You have me digging. I have run across a series of odd items I put away after the last time I assaulted NC R's. One item to remember... The Francis Riggans family becomes Ragan in TN/KY/LA. I cannot vouch for the spelling beyond that. I also don't think it matters. I think a lot of R's are here in 1700's NC as Riggin, Regin, Riggans, and go on to other versions. (MCH) #1 I have a copy of an apprenticeship paper written in the 2nd year of the reign of Queen Anne. ( sometime between 1702 and 1706 as that is the file it is in and I'm too frazzled to google)( York Co Deeds, Orders, Wills 12, 1702-1706, p. 165) The papers are a contract between Daniel Pegram of York County, VA and Thomas Whity of James City County to learn carpentry. As we are looking at John Riggins, son of old Daniel/Elizabeth of I-of-W/Surry VA as a possible father of John/Anne Bell Riggans, and Francis Sr/Mary Pegram Riggans, and as John is "in the neighborhood" of the Surry, York, New Kent VA, in the late 1690's, this looks promising. Propinquity! #2 On the 1687 census of Barbados is listed an Owen and a William Regan in the St Lucy's Parish where a Robert Gent was also listed. When the Gents get to NC the spelling varies from Gent to Gant to Gaunt. Somewhere in Orange Co NC in the mid 1790's, my Riggins marries a Gant. These Gants we tract from I-of-W and Surry VA to Granville and Orange NC. #3 I have a request from someone 7 years ago looking for a John James Rxxx who lived in Nothern Granville and wa buried in Enon Church...no date given. I get nervouse when fist names are doubled. I think a lot of people get smushed together that way. #4I have 3 notes from various R folk suggesting that the father of Chas Washington Rxx born circa 1775 is one of the 4 Richards in Warren at that time. The 4 Richards of Warren are the sons of: Joseph b. 1712, John b. 1730,( I can refute that one), William Powell 1722,and Timothy b. bef 1714. Any comments? Because folks in this old Granville, Bute areas of NC got involved in Orange Co NC's Regulators, and then fled elsewhere I am including the following: ( personally, I think my guy was in SC for the Rev War and then left, so this is too late for me) #5 SC 1790 Census Abbeville, Jona ( Jonathan) Ragan ( NOT Iona, for Pete's sake!)1 M 16+ and 4 F Beaufort, Ann Riggins 1 M -16, 3 F Ebenezer Riggins 1 M 16+, 2 M -16, 2 F Camden, Morgan Regan 1 16+ John Ragin Newberry Darby Raygin 1 M 16+, 3 M -16, 1 F David Raygin 1 16+, 3 M -16, 2 F John Regin 1 M 16+, 3 M -16, 3 F Joseph Ragen 1 M 16+, 1 -16, 4 F Reason Raygan 3 M 16+, 1 M -16, 7 F York Morgan Regan 1 M 16+ ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to RAGAN-ROOTS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to RAGAN-ROOTS-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message

    3. This came to me personally, so I a sending it to all: Another John. Born approximately 1810. John Ragan had siblings: Celia, Anna, Nancy, Melvina, Samuel and Marion. No information. Some time ago we posted to Ancestory.com the John Ragan/Azula(Arzula) McIntosh line from Anna, Union County, Illinois. We have a copy of the marriage certificate dated 7 July 1833. The line we were able to establish with certainty was John Ragan's marriage to Azula(Arzula McIntosh). We also confirmed all of John and Azula (Arzula) children and children of those children etc. John and Azula (Arzula McIntosh) had children named: Elbert (1835); Ann(a) (1837); Jane (1839) - married Thomas E. Brann 23 Oct 1859); Josiah Ragan, b. 20 Jul 1840 in Anna, Union, Illinois to Mary Parcell. d. 17 Feb 1937 in Modale, Iowa and was a Civil War veteran) and Harvey Albert Ragan's grandfather (author of this e-mail); Melvina married William Orton 17 June 1865; Thina (maybe Geney Ragan), spouse John A. Neitfield; William John Warren b. 1 Nov 1851, Anna, Union, Illinois, d. 19 Jan 1926; married Emma Belle Grady in Anna, Illinois and d. there 19 Jan 1926 buried in Cobden Cemetery, Union, Illinois; we note that John Warren had children Carrie Ragan who married Henry Rader, a May who married Darnell, a Carl A. Ragan who married Eva H. Hind and d. in Fremont, Nebraska and a Ray Ragan. John Warren Ragan lived between Anna, Illinois with daughter Carrie Ragan Rader and a niece Catherine (Callie) Ragan Hammer in Modale, Iowa. He died and was buried in Anna, Illinois with Carrie signing death certificate and not knowing mother's maiden name. And, finally - Samuel N. b. 1855 with spouse Elizabeth (Lizzie) Sullinger.m. 10th Mar 1877. So our question is: Does any one have anything on the 1810 John whose wife Azula or Arzula McIntosh. -----Original Message----- From: ragan-roots-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:ragan-roots-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of CARHAR@aol.com Sent: Friday, September 21, 2007 3:38 PM To: ragan-roots@rootsweb.com; rbomate@cabepme/met.columbus.rr.com; CKenter838@aol.com Subject: Re: [RAGAN-ROOTS] Fw: Re: Ragan, McIntosh Another John. 3. You have me digging. Because folks in this old Granville, Bute areas of NC got involved in Orange Co NC's Regulators, and then fled elsewhere I am including the following: ( personally, I think my guy was in SC for the Rev War and then left, so this is too late for me) #5 SC 1790 Census Abbeville, Jona ( Jonathan) Ragan ( NOT Iona, for Pete's sake!)1 M 16+ and 4 F Beaufort, Ann Riggins 1 M -16, 3 F Ebenezer Riggins 1 M 16+, 2 M -16, 2 F Camden, Morgan Regan 1 16+ John Ragin Newberry Darby Raygin 1 M 16+, 3 M -16, 1 F David Raygin 1 16+, 3 M -16, 2 F John Regin 1 M 16+, 3 M -16, 3 F Joseph Ragen 1 M 16+, 1 -16, 4 F Reason Raygan 3 M 16+, 1 M -16, 7 F York Morgan Regan 1 M 16+
