    1. [QUICK] TOWNSEND - QUICK Family Photographs
    2. Shelley Cardiel
    3. I've "rescued" a group of 12 old photographs belonging to the TOWNSEND and POWNALL Family of Pennsylvania. The group includes 6 photographs of Howard from teens to 60's taken in and around Lancaster, PA along with 3 photographs of Evanna POWNALL TOWNSEND taken from about age 6 into her 40's, one photograph taken in Atlantic City, NJ. An additional 3 photographs are of Evanna POWNALL with her daughter Alta TOWNSEND BURR STOLZE, Granddaughter Helen BURR PECK, and Great Granddaughter Alta PECK; Evanna TOWNSEND, Neenie QUICK, and an unidentified woman; and the last of Evanna TOWNSEND, Lindner BONGAARDT, Elsie BONGAARDT, and Alta TOWNSEND. Based on limited research I was able to locate the following information regarding this family: Howard L. TOWNSEND was b. 10 Nov 1851 in Sadsbury Township, Lancaster Co., PA to parents Jacob R. TOWNSEND (1820-1891) and Susan M. HOMSHER (1830-1902). Howard was one of 6 children born to this couple including, Howard L.; Ellwood Martin; Ashmore or Ashmer H.; Elizabeth Paxon or Patterson or Paxson; Ella V.; and Maris or Morris S. TOWNSEND, all born between 1851 and 1870. Howard married Evanna POWNALL (1852-1934) and they had 3 children who are all detailed below. Howard died 3 Sept 1932 in Lancaster Co., PA and is buried in the Bellevue Presbyterian Cemetery in Gap, PA. Evanna POWNALL was b. 22 Apr 1852 in Christiana, PA to parents Ambrose POWNALL (1825-1919) and Joanna F. DENNEY or DENNY (1829-1904). Evanna had a sister Edith Denney POWNALL (1866-1950). Evanna married Howard L. TOWNSEND and together they had 5 children including, Elsie Pownall; Eugene Leeray or Leeroy; Alta Frances; Harold Lester; and Herbert R. TOWNSEND; all born between 1876 and 1897. Evanna died 14 Oct 1934 and is buried in the Bellevue Presbyterian Cemetery in Gap, PA. Helen BURR was born 9 Oct 1910 in Philadelphia, PA to parents Albert BURR and Alta F. TOWNSEND. Helen married James A. PECK and she died 9 Jul 2000 in State College, PA and is buried in the Glen Run Cemetery in Atglen, PA. Helen had one daughter, Alta L. PECK PERKS who was living in State College, PA when her mother died in 2000. I am hoping to locate someone from this family so that this wonderful group of family photographs can be returned to the care of family. If you are a member of this family, or you know someone who might be, please contact me. Thanks, Shelley

Lang Studio in Tower, MN.  The photograph appears to have been taken in the 1890's with Kate in her 20's at the time.  The second photograph is identified as Mr. & Mrs. Jim QUICK and was taken at the same C. Lang Studio in Tower, MN in the 1880's or 1890's. The women in the photograph appears to be the same Kate QUICK pictured in the first photograph, though it is clearly not taken at the same time.  The couple appears to be in their 20's in this second photograph. Author: jasonjquick75 Surnames: quick quicke Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.quick/1443/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Has anyone made any documented link between Theunis Quick the son of Thomas Quick from Devonshire and then Naarden and the Quicke Family from Newton St Cyres, Devon? There is a Thomas Quick on the Quicke family pedigree (the visitation of the county of Devon) that died in 1611 but I see no son named Thomas mentioned. One interesting note is that Thomas's last name is Quick but his children are Quicke. I did find a record that a Thomas Quicke from Devon contributed 25 pounds in 1588 to help defend England from the Spanish. Another question I am trying to figure out is the origin on the quick surnname. The Quicke family in Devon that makes cheese, once mentioned on their website that it came from the the Saxon tribal and kingdom name called "Hwicce". I have found de Quike, de Quicke, and Quick sunames in ancient Lancashire County in the 1200's-1300's. In Lancashire County (now Manchester) There is a village called Quick. In Norman times it was called the Manor of Saddleworth-cum-Quick and it was normal for the Lords of the manor to take the Surname of their land. I am Needham Quick's ggggranddaughter.....And, as I recall from my last trip to the courthouse....there was a Patsy Annis Quick daughter to Aquilla, Think she married a Locklear. She also went by Anne. Read entirety of will pages at Bennettsville. Honestly, I'm going crosseyed I've read so many things and so many things so please don't take my word for this But check it out for yourself, for sure. Just a path to follow... In the 1870 census, he is listed as Mulatto and after then, he is listed as white. According to what I have found this morning, there are three (3) women associated with him: 1. Delia with three children: Belton Lee (1888); Ida Mae (1893) and Monroe (1902) 2. Victoria with four (4) children: Arthur (1859), Noah (1878), Mary Francis (1886), and Richard (1886) 3. Mary Peavy Quick with four (4) children: Cary P (twin) (1895), Everett (twin) 1895, Zollie (1901). I did a relationship check, and E. B. (Ebenezer) is the uncle of Percy Quick (my great aunt's spouse). Whew...go figure that one out. I can not sort this out. Author: 4beemer Surnames: Kuykendall/Cuykendall/Kirkendall and Consalus/Gonsales/Gonzales Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.quick/1439/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Ok. Quite confused. My ancestors were Lena Consulas/Gonzales and Leur Kuykendall/Cuykendall from New York state around the Ulster area. I am having trouble with this family due to the various spellings. Lena was descended from a Spanish Puritan man who left spain and married a Dutch lady in New York state. She then marries a dutch man- Leur Kuykendall. However, when I try to find Lena's parents I come up with different names and various dates. I have seen her parents as Emmanuel, Manuel, Don Manuel, Manuel Duk for her father and for her mother three different women: Rebecca Westvael, Marritje Davids, and Rymerig Quick. What gives? None of the names or dates match up for these people. On some ancestor family trees it has Lena dead while her children are still being born and on one her supposed mother is only a few years older than her. Some even have Lena as Helena but that persons dates definately don't match. I think it would have been simpler to put Junior and S! enior after every Manuel and use the full proper names instead of short versions of the names. Who is who? I am trying to trace the Spanish line back to what I believe were Spanish Jews who fled persecution. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. 1. [QUICK] Census for quicks or for anyone...
    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: timojean Surnames: Quick, Hithcock Heathcock.... Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/surnames.quick/1438/mb.ashx Message Board Post: When people read the census they sometimes fail to realize that the census takers at one time were told to record the persons who were in the household on the day that they visited. Which could mean double entries on the local census So, let's say that the Heathcock child was over visiting. They'd record him within the household. He could have been a relative; or, a neighbor's child taken in. As, I pointed out a few years ago.... There maybe a clue on the census. Someone told me that there is a mark that indicates such but I have yet to see it. Either way until we figure it out related to the child we don't know for sure. I found info on how to read censuses of different years on line. If the son and daughter in law were living within the household same thing. Only the head of that household would be recorded as head of household. On some censuses, I have found dtr in law but most not. Especially confusing around War years wherein families were hanging on to survive! in one dwelling. And, if the census is typed or written as a copy, not too reliable, need to see the original census. Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list.
