    3. I have been on this list off and on for about three years. My brickwall and thorn in my side is Stephen QUEEN born about 1820. He married Sarah/Sallie STEWART 1837 in Rabun County GA. They were listed on her death certificate as the parents of my 3G grandmother, Elmira/Myra QUEEN who married John Harrison HUGHES and settled in Cherokee County NC. John Harrison HUGHES and Myra QUEEN had a son, Hugh Marcus HUGHES who married Adeline QUEEN. My dad grew up with the children of Hugh and Adeline and he said that Adeline was Myra's niece. Adeline was daughter of George Washington QUEEN. Cherokee County Heritage book volume I has the parents of George Washington QUEEN as Stephen QUEEN and Elizabeth BAKER. So Stephen may have had second marriage. Stepehen and Sarah lived in Polk County, TN. I have seen listed as children of Stephen and Sarah: John b. around 1839 Samuel P. b. 1839 Uriah b. abt 1844 Lewis or William Lewis b. abt 1846 Scilla or Lilla or Lila b. abt 1849 and of course my Myra There definitely was interaction between John Harrison HUGHES, husband of Myra QUEEN. They gave testimony for each other regarding applications for civil war pensions. They also were listed as having deserted together. Lewis died after applying for his pension and it was granted to his widow. After she received her check, ANOTHER wife of Lewis showed up, complete with marriage certificate. I have been told [with no proof offered] that Stephen was a child of John QUEEN and Mary CAMPBELL. Stephen's date of birth is taken from age on Polk County census and we all know how accurate those census returns can be! Carol Don't let another child be hurt by ignorance.
