Hi All, I just finished reading the sequel to Gone With The Wind (Scarlett) and I noticed that names in both of those books are names we keep finding in the Queen family. So, I decided to look up some "repeating" names and see if maybe, instead of these kids being named after their mom's surname, they are being named after famous people. And then they pass that name on down. Here are a few I found in my not too expansive encyclopedia. Carol Wade Hampton-1818-1902 A United States politician and Confederate army office. His election as governor of South Carolina in 1876 ended Republican Reconstruction rule in the state. Hampton was born in Charleston, SC. He bore THE SAME NAME as that of his grandfather, a general in THE WAR OF 1812, and his father, a wealthy planter. You can look up more info on him in the encyclopedia. So there is one possibility for the Hampton name from 1812 on. However, Hampton was a common surname also. Alexander Hamilton-1755-1804 A United State patriot and statesman. Possibly giving rise to a number of kids named Hamilton. Richard Henderson-1735-1785 An American land promoter and judge. In 1774 he founded the Transylvania company and bought the land between Kentucky & Cumberland rivers (much of the state of Kentucky), from the Cherokee Indians. He hired Daniel Boone in 1775 to cross the Cumberland Gap and establish the first settlement on the acquired land. Henderson was born in Hanover county, Virginia and grew up in North Carolina. He became a lawyer and was appointed a judge in 1768.
