    3. Document 1 received from somewhere in Washington or Maryland in '70-80's. I can dig through some records and find the source, I believe. But here's most of it, which appears to be a govt form filled out by someone in DC in compliance with my request for info: Alfred Queen Pvt., Co C, 8 Regt. N.C. Inftry Appears on a Roll of Prisoners of War of Johnston's Army, paroled. Roll dated: Not dated Where paroled: Morganton, N. C. When paroled: May 27, 1865 Document 2 with lines numbered here by me: 1. Office Paroling Officer, 2. (This line Not readable by me) 3. Morganton, N. C. May 25th 1865 4. Body of document (See below) 5. Sworn and subscribed to before me, this 25th day of May 1865. 5. Signature of Paroling Officer 6. Typewritten: Capt & Paroling Officer, 2d Div. 23d A. C. 7. Alford's name and X. 8. Co C, 8th NC Body of document: "In accordance with the terms of the Military Convention, entered into on the twenty-sixth day of April, 1865, between General Joseph E. Johnston, Comminding the Confederate Army, and Major General W. T. Sherman, Commanding the United States Army in North Carolina (handwritten: Pvt Alford Queen Co C 8th NC) has given his solemn obligation not to take up arms against the Government of the United States until properly released from this obligation; and is permitted to return to his home, not to be disturbed by the United States authorities so long as he observe this obligation and obey the laws in force where he may reside."
